The position is responsible for washing and sanitizing dishes, cookware, utensils, food-service equipment, and kitchen work areas while supporting the preparation and service of meals for clients receiving treatment for eating disorders (ED), substance use disorders (SUD), and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. Unlike a traditional restaurant dishwasher position, this role operates within a healthcare/behavioral-health treatment environment where sanitation, infection prevention, food safety, confidentiality, client boundaries, and adherence to established meal-service procedures are particularly important. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Operate commercial dishwashing equipment and properly wash, rinse, sanitize, dry, and store dishes, trays, utensils, cookware, pots, pans, and food-service equipment. Maintain adequate supplies of clean and sanitized dishware and utensils throughout meal preparation and meal-service periods. Clean and sanitize sinks, dishwashing stations, counters, shelving, carts, worktables, equipment, walls, floors, drains, and other assigned kitchen areas. Maintain separation between dirty and clean dishware to minimize the risk of cross-contamination. Perform routine and scheduled deep cleaning of kitchen equipment and food-service areas. Empty trash and recycling containers and maintain waste-disposal areas in a clean and sanitary condition. Immediately address spills, wet floors, broken glass, food debris, and other safety hazards. Assist with receiving, unpacking, organizing, and properly storing food and kitchen supplies as assigned. Assist culinary staff with basic kitchen-support activities when appropriate and within demonstrated competency. Follow food-safety requirements regarding hand hygiene, glove use, cleaning chemicals, cross-contamination, allergen awareness, and safe food-handling practices. Follow established infection-control and sanitation procedures applicable to a healthcare and residential treatment environment. Maintain awareness that meals may be prepared according to individualized dietary plans and eating-disorder treatment protocols and avoid making unauthorized substitutions or changes to meals, portions, ingredients, or service procedures. Immediately communicate concerns involving meal trays, food allergies, dietary restrictions, contamination, damaged equipment, chemical concentrations, or sanitation deficiencies to the appropriate culinary supervisor. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when interacting with clients and refrain from discussing clients' meals, portions, weight, appearance, diagnosis, treatment, or dietary plan. Protect client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and Remedy Therapy confidentiality requirements. Follow established safety requirements for knives, chemicals, hot surfaces, wet floors, commercial equipment, and other kitchen hazards. Properly use required personal protective equipment. Maintain kitchen cleaning and sanitation logs when assigned. Assist with opening, closing, and end-of-shift sanitation procedures. Participate in required orientation, food-safety, emergency-preparedness, infection-control, and facility training. Follow Remedy Therapy policies and applicable AHCA, DCF, food-safety, infection-control, and accreditation requirements applicable to the employee's duties. Perform other reasonable culinary and kitchen-support duties consistent with the position. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED is preferred but may not be required depending upon demonstrated experience. Previous commercial kitchen, restaurant, healthcare dietary, institutional food-service, or dishwashing experience is required. The employee must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, understand sanitation and food-safety requirements, work effectively in a team environment, and maintain professionalism around a potentially vulnerable patient population. ServSafe Food Handler certification or comparable food-safety training is preferred at hire and should be completed within Remedy's established timeframe if required for the position.
