Hotel Kabuki seeks an experienced Steward to join our growing team. A Steward is responsible for washing dishes and kitchen equipment, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, removing waste and trash in accordance with local requirements and Kabuki's sustainability guidelines, restocking and organizing supplies, assisting with breakfast service, preparing banquet equipment, assisting with "plate-ups" during banquet events, running food to and from event spaces, and assisting with basic kitchen tasks. The role may require standing for extended periods, frequent walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with breakfast service and banquet events by gathering and setting up equipment, running food, and clearing dirty dishware and equipment from foodservice spaces.

Gathers all dirty dishware from kitchen and event spaces, rinses and stacks in dishracks, always clearing dishes of leftovers and trash in order to prepare for automated washing.

Loads full dishracks and ensures correct placement in accordance to the instructions for the operation of the machine. Operates automatic dish washing machine by using controls as instructed.

Loads dishwashing solutions into automatic dispensers and regulates the output of detergents and chemicals to the dishwashing machine by monitoring and adjusting controls.

Unloads clean dishes from racks after being processed through dish machine, inspects for cleanliness, and carefully stacks in specified areas for the easy use by restaurant and kitchen staff.

Manually scrubs pots, pans and other kitchen equipment that cannot be washed automatically, using detergents, scourers, and special solutions as required. Inspects for cleanliness, air-dries according to food safety requirements, and puts away in correct places.

Manually polishes all silver, stainless steel and pewter used in food service, using standard polishing cloth and products, in order to present clean and attractive equipment to diners.

Maintains the automatic dishwashing equipment in good condition and working order in accordance with manufacturers' instructions in order to prolong the life of the equipment, prevent breakdowns and to meet mandated health compliance regulations.

Keeps the dishroom in clean and orderly condition at all times by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, wiping counters and equipment and organizing shelves in order to maintain a sanitary work station and to meet mandated health compliance requirements.

Sweeps and mops kitchen and bar floors as requested and at end of each shift, and cleans all kitchen work surfaces as regularly scheduled by manager including walls, ceilings, hoods, vents and ovens.

Gathers all trash cans from kitchen work areas at end of each shift and empties into appropriate trash bins or recycling compactor on the loading dock.

Sweeps loading dock and kitchen entrance areas, clearing litter and debris, for the safety of employees and purveyors. Maintains cleanliness of trash receptacles through regular cleaning.

Deep cleans kitchen and bar areas and equipment according to deep cleaning schedule.

Performs other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

This is an hourly position with a rate of $34.67 per hour. Please note this is an On Call position.

Qualifications

At least 1 year of dishwashing experience, preferably in a hotel setting with banquets experience

A sense of ownership over your work and passion for keeping supplies and facilities in clean and working condition

A team-oriented attitude and commitment to excellence

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work a flexible schedule (including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays)

Ability to stand for extended periods, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs
