Job Description
Job Summary The Utility-Steward role is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the main kitchen dish area and Food & Beverage preparation areas. This position washes, sanitizes, and properly stores cookware, utensils, china, flatware, glassware, and kitchen equipment while supporting a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen operation. Job Duties & Responsibilities Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, cookware, utensils, china, flatware, glassware, and kitchen equipment in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards Operate and maintain the dishwashing machine and clean the dish room according to established procedures and schedules Polish silverware, platters, chafing dishes, and other service items to ensure they are presentation-ready Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; empty, clean, and reline garbage containers; break down boxes and remove debris from kitchen areas Inspect waste for misplaced silverware, dishes, glassware, and other reusable items to minimize loss Clean and polish stainless steel surfaces, including shelving, refrigerators, walk-in coolers, ice machines, coffee stations, and other kitchen equipment Clean receiving areas, storage rooms, trash areas, coolers, freezers, and other back-of-house spaces Sweep, mop, and maintain clean, dry, and safe kitchen floors throughout each shift Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries and transferring supplies and equipment between storage and work areas as needed Monitor and maintain inventories of dishwashing chemicals, soap, paper towels, and other cleaning supplies Handle all china, glassware, and equipment carefully to minimize breakage and damage Assist with food preparation and other kitchen support duties as assigned Complete scheduled deep-cleaning, weekly cleaning, and maintenance tasks for kitchen areas and equipment Clean, sanitize, and properly store brooms, mops, and other cleaning tools after use Safely handle and use cleaning chemicals in accordance with Club procedures and safety guidelines Support food service operations by prioritizing the cleaning of service items needed during peak meal periods Follow all food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, and workplace safety standards Attend departmental meetings and training sessions Perform other duties as assigned by management Minimum Qualifications & Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred Previous dishwashing, stewarding, utility, janitorial, or food service experience preferred, but not required Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe chemical handling practices Critical Skills Ability to safely operate dishwashing equipment and use cleaning chemicals according to established procedures Strong attention to detail with a commitment to cleanliness and organization Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively during peak service periods Dependable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision Strong communication and teamwork skills to effectively support culinary and Food & Beverage operations Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and professional work environment while providing exceptional support to the team Schedule Requirements While this role offers flexibility, availability on weekends and holidays is expected to support Club operations Training This role includes hands-on shadowing to ensure success and skill development Travel Required None Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Frequently climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, twist, and reach Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds Perform repetitive hand and arm motions throughout the shift Ability to work in hot, humid, and noisy environments Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment and tools
