Southdown Coffee

• We are hiring for a part-time position for Sunday and Monday 10am-6:30pm. Southdown Coffee is a growing small business with seven locations. Over the years we have built a loyal following through dedication to consistency and quality customer service. In 2019, Food and Wine, named us one of the top 100 coffee shops in the country, and our founder, Mark Boccard, placed 3rd in the Nation at the US Roaster's Championship. Dedication to ethically sourced and high quality coffees is the backbone of our operation, and we hope that you share a love of coffee or a desire to learn more. Equally important to us is the ability to provide quality customer service where we create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, greeting our guests with engagement and genuine enthusiasm. This starts with great service at our cafes and with the education of our crew! We are looking for a dependable and hardworking Porter to support the overall cleanliness, organization, and daily operations of the café. This is a hands-on support position that works across both front-of-house and back-of-house areas.

Position Summary:

Responsibilities include washing and organizing dishes, maintaining clean and sanitary workspaces, removing garbage, restocking supplies, and assisting team members wherever needed. The ideal candidate is flexible, attentive, and willing to help throughout the café to keep operations running smoothly. Essential Job Functions Collect used dishes, glassware, utensils, and kitchen equipment from front-of-house and back-of-house areas. Load, operate, and unload commercial dishwashing machines. Wash pots, pans, cutting boards, delicate items, and other equipment by hand when necessary. Properly dry, organize, and store clean dishes, glassware, utensils, and equipment. Ensure adequate supplies of clean dishes, glasses, and utensils are available, particularly during peak business hours. Clean and sanitize kitchen, service, dining, storage, and employee areas. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors throughout the café. Clean tables, counters, shelving, workstations, and other surfaces as needed. Empty garbage, recycling, and compost containers regularly and maintain designated waste areas. Support front-of-house team members with cleaning tables, restocking service areas, organizing supplies, and maintaining a clean and welcoming café environment. Support back-of-house team members with workstation setup, breakdown, cleaning, restocking, and general kitchen organization. Assist with receiving, organizing, and putting away deliveries and supplies as directed. Monitor cleaning products and other supplies and notify a manager when inventory is running low. Check dishwashing and cleaning equipment for proper operation and promptly report any problems. Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and company procedures. Occasionally assist the pastry department with basic tasks such as wrapping, labeling, organizing, or packing breads and other products, as directed. Respond to changing operational needs and provide general support throughout the café. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by a manager. Qualifications Previous experience as a porter, dishwasher, utility worker, or in a similar restaurant or hospitality position is preferred but not required. Experience using a commercial dishwashing machine is helpful. Ability to follow instructions and safely complete a variety of tasks. Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and sanitation. Ability to manage time effectively and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist both front-of-house and back-of-house teams. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and move throughout the majority of the shift. Ability to bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull items commonly used in café operations. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to work around heat, water, cleaning products, and wet or slippery surfaces while following applicable safety procedures. What benefits do Southdown employees receive?
