Job Description
Under general supervision, this position provides patron services within assigned program or facility areas . To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Performs front-line, day-to-day services in any combination of the following divisions: Events Recreation Center/Fieldhouse Discovery Park Maintains order and overall control in assigned program area ; monitor participants within program area. Monitors and maintains the overall appearance and functionality of facilities, venues, and program areas to provide safe conditions for patrons and staff ; p erforms maintenance tasks, remedies safety concerns, and communicates any issues to a supervisor . Ensures all required documentation is completed. Assists with opening, closing, and inventory procedures as needed. Responds to emergency situations and assists in the evacuation of program area . Accurately completes incident reports as needed. Ensures compliance with Town and Department al policies and procedures. Reports suspected abuse cases to supervisor and the appropriate governing bodies. Assists in setting up and tearing down tables, chairs, A/V equipment, sports, or recreation equipment for events, programs, and rentals. Performs other related duties as assigned . Examples of Essential Duties for the Events Discusses activities and event schedule s with patrons ; o versees some event logistics . Facilitates games and activities. Examples of Essential Duties for the Recreation Center Assists in the daily maintenance of fitness equipment to ensure proper working order . Examples of Essential Duties for Discovery Park Monitors patrons while ice skating on the trail. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required . An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered. Must be at least sixteen ( 16 ) years of age. Experience performing general cleaning and facility maintenance tasks is preferred. Employment Standards The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required . Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of recreation principles and practices, including best practices, program instruction and customer relations techniques . Knowledge of recreation center equipment and facilities . Skill in the provision of customer service. Skill in managing multiple tasks, conflicting priorities, and working under deadlines, even in stressful situations. Skill in verbal and written communication, including issuing and following clear instructions. Skill in basic housekeeping tasks and in the use of general cleaning equipment and supplies. Skill in operating computers, modern office equipment, and small/light tools. Skill and ability to safely ice skate for extended periods (Discovery Park Ice Trail only). Ability to facilitate group activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers, supervisors, Town officials, community organizers, the public, and contractors. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to work independently, analyze situations carefully, and adopt effective courses of action. Ability and willingness to learn, implement, and adapt to Departmental/Divisional policies and evolving procedures. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and various shifts . Work Environment and Physical Demands Working Conditions The working conditions described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. Tools & Equipment Requires frequent use of general cleaning equipment and supplies as well as small hand tools. Physical Demands Requires regular sitting, standing, walking, talking, handling, feeling or operating objects, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Requires occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing. Requires moderate physical activity with heavy lifting, up to fifty (50) pounds. Requires close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust focus, allowing a broad field of vision. Environment Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness/humidity. The noise level is usually high and may range from moderate to extreme. The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy.
