The Position:

The Estimator prices and calculates the total costs for building custom props, sets, and complex environments. You will review project blueprints, concept art, and design specifications to estimate labor, materials, and overhead costs. Your primary goal is to provide accurate, competitive bids and project budgets that ensure company profitability while respecting the client's creative intent.

Engage in the estimation process for bespoke design and fabrication projects, leveraging a deep understanding of fabrication methodologies, project scopes of work, design documentation, and specifications. Suggest alternative fabrication methods or materials to reduce costs without compromising the artistic vision or safety.

Define Project Scope:

Analyze and review Technical Drawings and 3D models, blueprints, and concept sketches to compute complete material, equipment, and labor costs. Conduct thorough quantity take-offs for diverse materials including metals, plastics, foam, wood, and specialized coatings. Prepare element pricing matrices, bids, and budget breakdowns in a clear and concise format that aligns with the salesperson's proposal style and client expectations.

Project Kick-off:

Participate in internal meetings, in collaboration with Sales, to inform production and project management teams on budget assumptions and potential constraints upon project kick-off. Source, request, and evaluate competitive bids from specialized subcontractors, artisans, and material suppliers. Craft detailed bid packages and requests for quotations (RFQs) for subcontractor-driven scopes of work. Evaluate bids and suppliers. Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure better pricing/payment terms to meet or exceed project margins or delivery schedules. Help educate the design process to ensure ongoing deliverables fall within budget expectations. Thoroughly assess and document all anticipated project costs for all phases of a project, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and on-site requirements. Support sales & business development efforts including pre-bid meetings, client-facing meetings and presentations, bid reviews, and proposal preparation. Be adaptable and understanding of pivoting approaches and timetables. Participate in post-project evaluations to inform future estimates.

Required Skills and Experience:
Industry Background:

3 to 5 years of estimating experience, specifically within scenic fabrication, theme parks, themed entertainment, architectural millwork, or specialized commercial construction. Strategic thinker with a knack for analyzing complex data to derive accurate estimates for all projects, large and small. Detail-oriented, adaptable, and deadline-driven.
