Job Description
Position Summary The Director of Recreation & Activities is responsible for creating, coordinating, executing, and continuously improving the recreational and activity experience at Mountain Lake. Serving in a role similar to a resort Cruise Director , this position is the central leader responsible for ensuring that Mountain Lake offers an engaging, well-organized and consistently executed calendar of experiences for resort guests, groups, families and the local community. The Director oversees Recreation, resort activities, the Game Room at Mary's Barn, outdoor recreation programming, equipment and recreation facilities, seasonal activities, special recreation events and other guest-experience programming. The Director also works closely with the Mountain Lake Conservancy to coordinate appropriate nature-based, educational and outdoor experiences. The position requires much more than developing an activities calendar. The Director is expected to know what is happening, where it is happening, who is responsible for it, when it begins, whether it is properly staffed and equipped, and whether guests know about it. The existing Recreation program has historically included equipment rentals, wagon rides, lawn games, outdoor recreation, hiking, biking and naturalist programming. This Director will build upon those responsibilities while creating a more comprehensive resort-wide activities program. The Director is a visible, guest-facing leader who brings energy to the Mountain Lake experience and helps transform the resort from simply a place to stay into a destination where guests continually have something memorable to see, do, discover and experience . The Director of Recreation & Activities is expected to bring this Promise to life through every activity, interaction, program and experience offered at Mountain Lake. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesResort Recreation & Activities Leadership Develop, manage and execute a comprehensive annual Recreation & Activities program for Mountain Lake. Create programming appropriate for couples, families, children, adults, groups, conference attendees, local visitors and multigenerational travelers. Maintain an appropriate balance of complimentary activities, revenue-producing experiences, scheduled programming and self-guided recreation. Continuously evaluate the recreation program and introduce new activities and experiences that complement Mountain Lake's Appalachian setting, history and natural environment. Ensure recreation offerings reinforce Mountain Lake's identity as an Appalachian mountain destination. Maintain hiking and touring trails throughout the year. Work with local and national officials on trail improvement programs. Position is 90% outside year-round.
