Program Director and Executive Director General Position Description The Summer Camp Lead Educator is responsible for overseeing campers ages 5-12 throughout daily activities, enrichment programming, field trips, and outdoor learning experiences. This position leads the development and implementation of educational lessons, coordinates curriculum, and manages the day-to-day operations of the camp group. The Lead Educator develops a cohesive teaching team, supervises support staff, and ensures a safe, structured, and engaging summer experience. This individual must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development to create a stimulating environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to grow. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Assistant Teacher observes and documents children's interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Lead Teacher and the Director. Key Responsibilities Oversee campers ages 5 -12 during all daily activities. Supervise children on field trips, nature walks, and off-site excursions. Maintain active supervision at all times. Ensure safety procedures are followed during indoor and outdoor programming. Address and resolve conflicts among campers using positive guidance strategies. Curriculum & Educational Programming Coordinate and implement educational curriculum aligned with developmentally appropriate practices. Develop engaging weekly lesson plans and enrichment activities. Plan individual and group activities that promote social, cognitive, emotional, and physical growth. Lead STEM, literacy, nature-based, and creative enrichment activities. Encourage hands-on learning and experiential education. Maintain a classroom and camp environment that supports learning and exploration. Team Development & Supervision Develop and lead a cohesive teaching team. Model professionalism, leadership, and best practices. Supervise teacher assistants and volunteers. Provide coaching and ensure staff follow planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards. Lead by example to foster teamwork and positive morale. Parent & Communication Responsibilities Maintain frequent communication with families through informal discussions and updates. Address and resolve parental concerns professionally. Provide progress feedback when appropriate. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met. Maintain appropriate hygiene, cleanliness, and classroom safety standards. Know and follow proper handwashing procedures. Understand procedures for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect. Participate in monthly fire and emergency drills. Maintain accurate records, forms, and documentation. Administrative & Professional Responsibilities Maintain accurate attendance and camper records. Maintain personal professional development plan. Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of professional childcare or youth program experience. Strong understanding of child development (ages 5-12). Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Basic computer proficiency. High energy with ability to foster a positive team environment. Physical Requirements Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Ability to take frequent walks and participate in outdoor activities. Must be able to kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and actively engage in physical play. Must have close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color recognition. Ability to talk and hear voices at various levels.
