Job Description

Spellbound Village | Hampton, GA Fall Festival with Opportunity to Grow into Year-Round Theme Park Entertainment Distortion is seeking a Director of Live Entertainment & Immersive Performance to take existing creative concepts and transform them into repeatable live guest experiences. Spellbound Village is an immersive colonial village centered around witch-trial folklore, theatrical storytelling and interactive entertainment. The property is launching first as a seasonal festival, with plans for substantial expansion into a permanent year-round immersive entertainment destination. This person will work directly with creative leadership to take concepts, outlines, characters and environments and answer the question: "How do we actually perform this?" Initial projects include directing and choreographing Hysteria , an immersive wooded walkthrough experience; creating and directing The Witches' Procession , a theatrical parade through Spellbound Village; directing roaming characters and guest interactions; establishing performer movement and improvisational frameworks; assisting with casting; and helping determine which additional live entertainment concepts can realistically be executed during the inaugural season. The Director will be responsible for: Casting and rehearsing performers; Translating creative outlines into playable scenes; Blocking and choreography; Developing performer interactions with guests; Teaching improvisational boundaries and character consistency; Maintaining pacing and energy over long operating periods; Creating understudy and call-out plans; Maintaining show quality after opening; Adapting performances for weather, staffing and operational changes; Collaborating with operations, technical and creative departments; and Helping develop Distortion's permanent entertainment program as the organization grows. We're looking for a director who wants to be in the woods rehearsing actors , not someone who wants to sit in an office and send production notes. Theater directing, immersive theater, haunted attractions, theme parks, choreography, stunt/performance direction, Renaissance festivals and other unconventional live-entertainment backgrounds are all relevant.
