Job Description

Position Summary The Aquatic Supervisor plays a key leadership role in the daily operation of the Severna Park Community Center's aquatic facilities and programs. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and staff while supporting the delivery of high-quality aquatic and fitness programs. The Aquatic Supervisor oversees pool operations, facility maintenance, lifeguard supervision, safety compliance, customer service, and administrative functions. Working closely with the aquatics leadership team, this individual assists with staff scheduling, training, program support, registration systems, website updates, inventory management, and customer communications. This hands-on position requires strong leadership, organizational, and customer service skills, as well as the ability to respond effectively to emergencies, manage multiple priorities, and foster a positive team culture. The Aquatic Supervisor serves as a liaison between patrons, staff, and departments to ensure efficient operations and an exceptional customer experience while supporting the Community Center's mission and goals. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to aquatic safety, staff development, and community engagement. Responsibilities Facility Operations & Safety Oversee daily operations of the aquatic facility to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. Conduct routine inspections of pools, locker rooms, pump rooms, and surrounding areas. Monitor water chemistry and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs. Maintain inventory of chemicals, first aid supplies, and aquatic equipment. Implement and enforce facility policies, safety standards, and emergency action plans. Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and incident records. Staff Leadership & Supervision Supervise, schedule, train, and support lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic staff. Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities. Conduct staff orientations and monthly in-service trainings. Assist with hiring, onboarding, certification tracking, and payroll reconciliation. Serve as a lifeguard and respond to emergencies as needed. Customer Service & Program Support Provide exceptional customer service to members, guests, and program participants. Respond professionally to inquiries, concerns, and complaints by phone, email, and in person. Support aquatic and fitness program registration, scheduling, and participation. Enforce facility rules and policies consistently and respectfully. Assist with program promotion, customer communications, and community outreach efforts. Administrative & Technical Support Maintain aquatic and fitness schedules, registration systems, and website content. Coordinate communication between aquatic staff, front desk personnel, and other departments. Assist with rental agreements, invoices, certificates of insurance, and program documentation. Prepare reports, maintain records, and support leadership team initiatives. Participate in meetings and contribute to operational planning and improvements. Teaching & Professional Expectations Teach swim lessons, aquatic fitness classes, or coach programs as needed. Support curriculum development and instructor training. Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude. Promote the mission, values, and goals of the Severna Park Community Center. Participate in Center events and support organizational initiatives. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Current Anne Arundel County Pool Operator License. Current Professional Lifeguard Certification. Minimum of 1-2 years of aquatic operations, customer service, or program supervision experience. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and customer service skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software systems. Ability to multitask, work independently, and exercise sound judgment. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field. Supervisory experience in an aquatic, recreation, or fitness environment. Swim instructor and/or swim coach experience. Experience with registration, scheduling, and membership management systems.
