We're looking for our next Event Assistant to join the small (but passionate) team behind Godmothers. Godmothers is more than a bookstore, it's a local gathering spot with global ambitions. Housed in a historic space just steps from the beach, we're building a home for readings, performances, and the kind of nights that turn strangers into regulars. Every title on our shelves is chosen with care, spotlighting both beloved names and rising voices.
Our goal:
to be the beating heart of this beachside community, one event, one page, one conversation at a time. The Role Event Assistant is a non-exempt, part-time position, 10-20 hours per week. Ability to work in-person, nights and weekends are required as needed to work events. The Event Assistant reports to the Head of Operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Set up and breakdown of in-store events. Operating POS during events. Greet guests as they arrive and answer any questions. Check-in ticket holders for the event. Assisting with events department tasks and other duties as needed. Introduce authors when needed. Ensure guest experience and satisfaction. The ideal candidate must possess extraordinary public speaking, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently are also required. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Qualifications Associate's Degree or equivalent is preferred 1 - 3 years retail and/or event experience preferred General computer skills required Effective verbal and written communication Friendly and engaging personality Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift boxes of books, up to 40 lbs Ability to maneuver several flights of stairs over the course of 8-hour shifts Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays as needed to meet the needs of the business
