Bring Live Events to Life as an Events Services Technician Events Services Technician I (BC04) — $26.04 per hour Part-Time, As-Needed Position — Up to 19 Hours Per Week Are you dependable, technically minded, and interested in working behind the scenes of major live events? The City and County of Honolulu's Department of Enterprise Services is seeking a part-time Events Services Technician to support events at the iconic Neal S. Blaisdell Center and Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell . This is an as-needed position. Work hours are based on scheduled events and operational needs. Employees may be scheduled for up to 19 hours per week; however, a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed . This is an exciting opportunity to work during concerts, sporting events, conventions, cultural celebrations, graduations, community gatherings, and other live productions in Honolulu. Events Services Technicians help ensure that event spaces, equipment, and City-provided services meet the tenant's contracted requirements and that all rented areas are ready and safe for use. What You'll Do The Events Services Technician is the on-site technical representative responsible for providing contracted City equipment and services during event move-in, show hours, and move-out, particularly during hours when Building Services staff are unavailable.
Primary responsibilities include:
Reviewing event work orders, setup diagrams, and contracted equipment requirements. Inspecting event spaces and confirming that assigned facilities are properly set up, safe, and ready for tenant use. Completing written condition checks before events and documenting existing damage, setup inconsistencies, or facility concerns. Correcting setup issues when possible and promptly reporting unresolved concerns to the Productions Supervisor or Production Manager. Meeting with the tenant or authorized event representative and establishing clear communication throughout the event. Providing technical assistance and venue support within the technician's training and authorized scope of responsibility. Communicating tenant requests or operational needs that require assistance from supervisors or other City personnel. Providing and monitoring the use of contracted City equipment during move-in, event operations, and move-out. Monitoring public and non-public event areas for unsafe conditions. Monitoring tenant production and technical personnel to help protect guests, employees, event workers, and City equipment. Securing City equipment and preventing equipment from leaving the premises without written supervisory authorization. Supporting venue operations and representing Productions management on the event site when the Production Manager, Assistant Production Manager, or assigned Event Manager or Coordinator is not on duty. Assisting with emergency procedures and facility evacuations as trained and directed. Attending required classes, meetings, and training sessions related to job performance, safety, conduct, and City expectations. Strong communication, customer-service, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are important.
Candidates should be able to:
Read and follow event work orders, setup diagrams, written instructions, and venue procedures. Inspect event spaces carefully and accurately document facility conditions. Communicate professionally with tenants, promoters, technical crews, supervisors, security personnel, and other City employees. Recognize safety concerns and take appropriate action within their training and authority. Protect and account for City equipment. Work independently while keeping Productions management informed of important issues. Remain calm and professional when responding to changing event needs or emergency situations. Schedule and Hours This is a part-time, as-needed position . Work is scheduled according to the Blaisdell Center and Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell event calendars and operational requirements. Employees may work up to 19 hours per week , but weekly hours will vary. There is no guarantee that an employee will receive 19 hours—or any minimum number of hours—during a particular week. Live events do not follow a traditional workweek.
