EVENT ASSISTANT
Wildlife Prairie Park - Hanna City, Illinois FLSA Status Non-Exempt Park Overview Wildlife Prairie Park is a jewel in the Midwest. Located just outside of Peoria, Illinois, this 1,800-acre zoological park is home to more than 180 animals representing over 60 native Illinois species. Wildlife Prairie Park promotes conservation, education, and recreation while hosting weddings, corporate events, retreats, and private celebrations throughout the year. Position Summary The Event Assistant is a part-time support position responsible for assisting with the setup, execution, and breakdown of private events held at Wildlife Prairie Park. This role works closely with the Events Supervisor and Sales & Events team to help ensure exceptional guest service, venue readiness, cleanliness, and successful event execution. This position supports Wildlife Prairie Park's commitment to outstanding guest experiences and high-quality events. This position will also cross-train with the Custodial team to assist with general facility cleanliness and operational support throughout the Park as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilit ies- Assist with weddings, corporate events, birthday parties, celebrations of life, and other private and special events.
- Assist with event setup, breakdown, and venue resets to ensure spaces are event-ready.
- Set up and arrange tables, chairs, linens, décor, signage, and other event materials according to event layouts and timelines.
- Ensure event spaces, restrooms, and surrounding areas remain clean, stocked, and guest-ready throughout events.
- Perform mopping, garbage removal, table and chair setup, and general event space upkeep as needed.
- Support bartenders and event staff during event service as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service and professionally assist guests, vendors, and clients during events.
- Monitor event spaces and communicate guest concerns, maintenance issues, or safety concerns to supervisors promptly.
- Assist with inventory organization, stocking supplies, and preparing venues for upcoming events.
- Cross-train with the Custodial team and assist with general cleaning and facility support duties throughout the Park as operational needs require.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness in public spaces, venues, restrooms, and other Park facilities.
- Follow Park safety policies, responsible alcohol service procedures, and event guidelines.
- Support park-wide special events and assist other departments as needed to ensure overall event success.
- Attend and actively participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
- Maintain compliance with Park policies, procedures, and service standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedule.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced event environment.
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks independently.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy events.
- Ability to work collaboratively with event staff, volunteers, vendors, and guests.
- Ability to perform general cleaning and custodial duties as needed.
- Hospitality or event experience preferred but not required. Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in hospitality, customer service, events, catering, custodial services, or related fields preferred.
- Experience working weddings or corporate events is desirable but not required.
- BASSET certification preferred or ability to obtain if required for assigned duties.
