Position Overview The Education Events Manager is responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, and evaluation of the International Hearing Society's conference(s) and educational events. This position serves as the organization's lead event professional, overseeing all aspects of event management from concept development and execution through post-event analysis and continuous improvement. The Education Events Manager leads the planning and execution of the IHS Annual Conference & Expo and supports a portfolio of educational and engagement events as well as internal/committee meetings/events. Working collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders, this role manages event strategy, logistics, budgeting, vendor relationships, attendee engagement, and event technology to deliver exceptional experiences that advance IHS' mission, educational objectives, and business goals. The Education Events Manager is a highly-visible, cross-functional team member who reports to the Director of Professional Development. The Education Events Manager may supervise event vendors and/or volunteers. Key Responsibilities IHS Conference & Expo Event Strategy and Leadership
  • Lead the planning, development, and execution of the IHS Conference & Expo and other educational events.
  • Serve as primary project manager and operational lead for the IHS Conference & Expo.
  • Provide on-site leadership and hands-on oversight for major meetings and events. You are the showrunner on-site.
  • Lead post-event evaluations and implement continuous improvement initiatives across IHS' event portfolio.
Conference and Event Operations Develop comprehensive event timelines, production schedules, project plans, and operational procedures, including event staffing plans. Create detailed event specifications and coordinate meeting space, room sets, audiovisual production, catering, signage, shipping, registration areas, transportation, accessibility services, and onsite logistics. Oversee all aspects of conference operations, including exhibit halls, board meetings, VIP functions, awards programs, networking events, and special events. Monitor event operations, proactively identify challenges, troubleshoot issues, and ensure successful execution. Conduct venue site visits, planning visits, and pre-event operational reviews. Venue, Vendor, and Contract Management Serve as the primary strategic liaison with venues, hotel partners, vendors, members, volunteers, and internal stakeholders. Lead the RFP process, negotiate, and manage contracts with hotels, convention facilities, audiovisual providers, production companies, decorators, photographers, transportation companies, security providers, accessibility vendors, and other service partners. Create and manage template agreements, i.e. sponsorships, exhibits Budget, Revenue, and Financial Management Develop and manage event budgets, revenue forecasts, sponsorship opportunities, and financial performance metrics in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Monitor and oversee event financial performance, including revenue and expense management. Sponsorship, Expo, and Sales Support Oversee exhibit hall and tradeshow logistics in collaboration with exhibitors, sponsors, vendors, and internal teams. Coordinate floor plans, exhibitor service providers, exhibitor manuals, move-in and move-out schedules, and exhibit operations. Registration and Attendee Experience Oversee event registration processes and attendee management strategies. Partner with internal teams and vendors to optimize registration experiences and attendee communications. Event Technology and Production Oversee audiovisual production, event technology platforms, livestreaming services, mobile event applications, and accessibility technologies. Coordinate production schedules, speaker needs, rehearsals, technical requirements, and event technology integration. Project Management and Collaboration Facilitate planning meetings and provide regular updates on milestones, deliverables, risks, and deadlines. Collaborate with Marketing, Professional Development, Membership, Sales, and Leadership teams to achieve organizational goals. Develop and document event management standards, procedures, and best practices. Other Educational Events
  • Lead logistics and planning for other educational events which may include committee work meetings, educational workshops, live webinars, and more.
  • Collaborate with other staff to document and achieve event objectives.
Qualifications Experience:
  • Three to seven years of progressively responsible experience in conference, meeting, tradeshow, and/or event management required.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex projects, budgets, and multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Experience negotiating venue, hotel, and vendor contracts.
  • Experience managing association, nonprofit, healthcare, or professional development events preferred.
  • Knowledge of event technology platforms, registration systems, project management tools, and Microsoft 365 applications. Previous use of iMIS AMS is a bonus.
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation (preferred)

Work Environment This is an in-office position located in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Limited hybrid/remote work considerations may be made after a training period as defined by IHS policy. Events are held in typical, professional environments (i.e., hotels, office spaces, convention centers). The individual in this role must be able to lift up to 50 pounds safely and spend large portions of event days standing/walking continuously around indoor environments. Working Hours and Travel The Education Events Manager is a full-time role (40 hours per week) operating within IHS' typical business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday). The 2027 IHS Conference & Expo is September 16-18, 2027 in Denver, Colorado. The individual in this position should expect to be on-site September 12-20, 2027. This is mandatory. Additional travel and/or irregular hours (evenings, weekends) will vary throughout the year based on event and organizational needs. Up to 5 annual trips can be expected.
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
