Job Description

Contract / As-Needed Event Staff | Flexible Scheduling Ascension St. John Sportsplex is building a team of dependable, energetic Programs & Events Staff to support our growing calendar of youth camps, Parents' Night Out programs, community events, special events, and other Sportsplex programming. This is an as-needed position designed for people looking for flexible work without committing to a traditional weekly schedule. When upcoming shifts become available, members of our Programs & Events Staff pool will be contacted with the event details and can accept opportunities based on their availability. What You May Work Our event staff may be scheduled for: Summer camps School-break camps Parents' Night Out events Youth programs Sports activities and clinics Community events Special Sportsplex events Holiday programming Other facility programs and experiences Events may take place during weekdays, evenings, and weekends depending on the Sportsplex calendar. What You'll Do Responsibilities will vary depending on the event but may include: Supervise and interact with children during camps and youth programs Lead or assist with games, sports, activities, crafts, challenges, and other programming Help set up activity stations, equipment, tables, signage, decorations, and event spaces Assist with participant check-in and pickup Welcome families and help direct participants Monitor assigned groups or activity areas Help keep activities organized and running according to schedule Follow the event run of show and instructions provided by the Programs & Events Coordinator Transition groups between activities Help distribute meals, snacks, drinks, or event materials Maintain safe and organized activity spaces Help troubleshoot routine participant needs Assist with event breakdown and cleanup Communicate concerns or incidents to the Programs & Events Coordinator Jump in where needed to help the event run smoothly What We're Looking For We're looking for people who are: Dependable and punctual Energetic and comfortable interacting with children and families Friendly and professional Able to follow directions and execute assigned responsibilities Comfortable working as part of a team Willing to take initiative when something needs to be done Able to stay engaged throughout an entire shift Comfortable in an active sports and event environment Flexible when plans or assignments change Able to communicate clearly with event leadership Available for at least some evenings, weekends, school breaks, and/or summer programming Experience working with children, sports, camps, recreation, education, childcare, coaching, or events is preferred but not required. How Scheduling Works This is not a traditional set weekly schedule. Programs & Events Staff will be part of a rotating pool of team members who can be contacted as events and programs are scheduled. When staffing is needed, available shifts will be communicated with information such as: Event/program Date Shift time Expected responsibilities Any event-specific information You can indicate whether you are available for that particular opportunity. Accepting one event does not mean you are required to work every future event. However, once you accept an assigned shift, we expect you to be dependable and honor that commitment. Our events can be busy, loud, active, and fast-moving. The best members of this team are people who enjoy that environment and don't need to be repeatedly reminded to stay involved. If you see kids who need direction, equipment that needs to be moved, an activity that needs help, or an area that needs to be cleaned up, you're willing to jump in. We're looking to build a reliable group of people we can confidently call when it's time to make an event happen.
