As a key member of MBT's team, the House Manager must have a passion for customer service and the performing arts, and a dedication to furthering MBT's reputation as a world-class venue within the local community and beyond. The House Manager provides operational leadership for all Front of House functions during performances and public events, ensuring safe, efficient event execution while maintaining MBT's standards for guest experience, accessibility, patron safety, and operational excellence.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as the lead operational manager for all Front of House activities during performances and public events, coordinating with the House & Hospitality Manager, Concessions & Merchandise Manager, Event & Hospitality Assistants, Security, Custodians, Volunteers, and other event staff to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional patron experiences.
  • Manage all Front of House (FoH) ticketed and non-ticketed activities including crowd management, ingress and egress, receptions, cleaning, and related special needs such as ADA patron services, patron conduct, first aid, emergency response, monitoring of cameras and recording devices, and related patron services
  • Exercise event-day operational authority for all patron-facing departments, making real-time operational decisions regarding staffing, customer service, emergency response, and event operations to ensure successful execution
  • Lead the operational advance process for performances, rentals, and special events by coordinating event requirements with internal departments, promoters, artists, and rental clients to ensure operational readiness
  • Perform pre-show preparations such as checking technology, clean uniforms, and stocked supplies for volunteers. Complete post-show responsibilities including clearing Front of House areas, securing equipment, coordinating post-event building readiness, and completing required reports
  • Serves as the Incident Commander/lead operational manager for all Front of House functions, in collaboration with onsite Director (or PIC) during performances, directing operational activities to ensure safe and successful event execution
  • Drive weekly event operations meetings, identifying operational issues, communicating event updates, and ensuring all departments have the information necessary for successful event execution
  • Coordinates closely with Production, Ticketing, Facilities, Security, Hospitality, Concessions, Marketing, promoters, artists, and rental clients to ensure successful event execution
  • Monitor overall event operations and proactively resolve operational, customer service, accessibility, and safety concerns while maintaining MBT's standards for guest experience and venue reputation
  • Assist the Event Services Manager with interviewing and hiring and the evaluation of Event & Hospitality Assistants, security, and volunteer staff, including contributions to annual performance reviews
  • Evaluate Front of House operations following events and recommend improvements to customer service practices, operational procedures, and patron safety initiatives
  • Support ongoing staff training relating to Front of House policies and assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining Front of House policies, procedures, operational standards and training materials
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Event Services Manager, and House & Hospitality Manager to strengthen departmental procedures, improve event operations, and enhance the overall patron experience
  • Prepare operational reports, incident documentation, scheduling, advance communications, staffing recommendations, and other administrative work as assigned
  • Other duties as specified by the Event Services Manager and Program Director
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
2+ years of venue event management experience or equivalent 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience 3+ years of customer service experience or equivalent Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple work groups in a fast-paced public environment Ability to make sound decisions independently during emergency or high-pressure situations Professional demeanor with the ability to remain calm, productive, and customer-focused in demanding situations Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining operational excellence. Experience working with volunteers and nonprofit organizations Performing arts venue experience CPR & First Aid Certification MAST 12 or other alcohol service certification Experience with Momentus Elite event software Radio communications experience Experience coordinating emergency response procedures or public assembly operations
WORK ENVIRONMENT & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Work is primarily performed in a historic theater environment.
  • Regular movement between offices, performance spaces, Front of House areas, and other areas of the theatre.
  • Position requires extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and computer use.
  • Frequent use of computer, phone, radio, and other standard office and event equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting up to 30 pounds, setting up and taking down tables and chairs, and performing event-related physical duties.
  • Ability to work in a busy public environment with varying noise levels, crowds, lighting, and other conditions associated with live events.

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a full-time position with additional hours required during periods of heavy event activity. The House Manager oversees live events utilizing public areas of the theatre and works collaboratively with the House & Hospitality Manager to ensure successful event execution. During performances and public events, the House Manager serves as the operational lead for all Front of House functions and remains on-site until patrons have safely exited the building, post-event responsibilities are completed, and required documentation has been finalized. Weekend, evening, and holiday work is regularly required based on the theatre's event schedule.
CLASSIFICATION AND BENEFITS
Regular Full-Time, Hourly (Non-Exempt) Eligible for full-time benefits including medical with employer-funded HSA, dental, vision, 403(b) employer match, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
