Job Description
About the Role Shain's of Maine is hiring full-time team members for our retail counter. We serve ice cream and frappes alongside a full fast-food menu — lobster rolls, fried food, and more. You'll be the face of the shop, working the counter, the fryer, and the prep station during busy shifts, with strong tip earnings on top of hourly pay. Responsibilities Scoop and serve ice cream, frappes, and other menu items to consistent portion and quality standards Prepare food to order, including lobster rolls and fried food, following recipes and portioning standards Operate the fryer safely and correctly (fry lighter use, oil handling, timing) Prep ingredients ahead of and during shifts — portioning is a big part of this role Operate the register accurately and handle cash/card transactions Keep the counter, kitchen equipment, and dining area clean and stocked throughout the shift Restock toppings, cups, napkins, and other supplies as needed Follow food safety and health code procedures Show up reliably for scheduled shifts and communicate promptly if a shift conflict arises Work as part of a team during peak rushes, supporting coworkers as needed Provide friendly, prompt customer service and handle basic customer questions or concerns Help lead and support teammates on shift as needed Skills & Requirements Reliable attendance and punctuality — no-shows create real problems for the team Willingness to learn food prep and fryer use if not already experienced; prior fry/fryer experience a plus Comfortable following portioning and consistency standards across both ice cream and food Ability to work on your feet during busy, fast-paced shifts Basic math and cash-handling accuracy Some retail or customer service experience preferred Leadership qualities — someone who can step up and help guide the team on shift Open-minded, eager to learn, and coachable Team player who communicates well with coworkers and managers Available for full-time hours, including weekends and seasonal peak periods Must be 16+ (or applicable state minimum age for food service) If you're reliable, love working with people, and want to learn a little bit of everything — scooping, cooking, and running a busy counter — we'd love to have you on the team.
