EMPLOYMENT
Full Time; Dependent on funding availability.
SALARY/PAY RATE
$18.68/Hour
DESCRIPTION
The Tribal Nursery Crew will assist with JW Toumey Nursery functions under the Scope of Work of the GeteMiinikaanan partnership project with the Ottawa National Forest.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Seed Collection in the field
  • Vegetative and root cuttings for propagation
  • Seed Processing at the nursery
  • Seed Stratification assistance
  • Seed Sowing/Root Propagation at the nursery
  • Seedling care at the nursery
  • Lifting, packing, and shipping seedlings
  • Planting of seedlings at designated locations on national forest and tribal lands
  • Monitoring of seedling plant survival rates at planting locations
  • Data collection, inventory, and tracking
  • Other tasks specified by the LVD Ethnobotanist, Nursery Managers, including the Lead Horticulturist
  • One of the Tribal Nursery Crew Members will serve as the Tribal Youth Nursery Crew Supervisor.
This individual will be subject to a rigorous background check.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have knowledge of the Lac Vieux Desert Ojibwe people and their spiritual, traditional, historical, and ancestral ties of the community, while also agreeing not to publish or otherwise distribute culturally sensitive information to the public without proper consent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of missions, organizational goals, and objectives of the Tribe.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors and in the field daily.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • The applicant must be insurable under the tribes' insurance as well and must pass a background check as well as a pre-employment drug test.
