Job Description

Description As a Shovel Team Member focused on commercial properties, you will be responsible for performing manual snow and ice removal on commercial walkways, entryways, loading docks, and other pedestrian areas. This is a crucial role in ensuring the safety and accessibility of our client properties during winter weather events.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform manual snow removal using shovels and other hand tools on commercial walkways, sidewalks, entryways, steps, and loading docks. Apply ice melt and other de-icing agents effectively and efficiently as directed. Ensure thorough and timely completion of assigned areas on commercial properties. Communicate effectively with the Shovel Team Leader and other team members regarding site conditions and progress. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while on client properties. Utilize assigned tools and equipment properly and safely.
Equipment Management:
Use assigned hand tools (shovels, scrapers, etc.) and small equipment (snow blowers, if applicable) safely and appropriately. Report any damaged or malfunctioning tools or equipment to the Shovel Team Leader. Assist in maintaining the organization of tools and equipment in company vehicles or designated areas.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, emphasizing safe shoveling techniques and awareness of surroundings on commercial sites. Utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, including high-visibility gear. Be aware of potential hazards on commercial job sites (e.g., icy loading docks, uneven pavement, pedestrian flow) and report them to the Shovel Team Leader. Work safely and efficiently, minimizing any disruption to business operations. Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to the Shovel Team Leader.
Record Keeping:
Report the completion of assigned areas to the Shovel Team Leader or through designated communication methods. Communicate any site-specific observations or issues encountered on commercial properties to the Shovel Team Leader. Accurately report work hours. Requirements Previous experience in snow removal, particularly manual shoveling on commercial properties, is required. Demonstrated leadership skills or the ability to effectively lead and motivate a small team in a fast-paced commercial environment. Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in cold and potentially hazardous winter conditions for extended periods, often with a focus on efficiency and minimizing disruption to commercial operations. Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality are essential, as commercial properties often require timely service before business hours. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team, coordinating with plow drivers and property management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and their customers. Strong awareness of safety procedures related to snow and ice removal on commercial properties. Valid driver's license Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 lbs or more, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks. Comfortable working outdoors in various conditions, including heat, cold, snow, and rain. Schedule Available for work during snow events, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, often with limited notice.
On-Call Availability:
Must be available to respond to work assignments outside of regularly scheduled hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.
