This role encompasses the entire brewing process, including grain handling, wort production, cellaring operations, and packaging. The ideal candidate is passionate about crafting exceptional beer and is eager to contribute to our community-focused initiatives. This is a very hands-on position. Flexibility with schedule and ability to work evenings, graveyard shifts, and weekends are a must. The candidate must be able to multitask efficiently, problem solve, and work well with others and independently. Thorough knowledge of process, quality, and ingredients is obligatory. Moreover, strong planning and organizational abilities are essential. Communication skills, both written and oral, attention to detail, and an emphasis on quality are paramount for success in this role.
Core Responsibilities:
Execute all brewing phases meticulously, including grain handling, wort production, dry hopping, and packaging, ensuring the creation of high-quality beer. Manage yeast effectively through tasks such as harvesting, pitching, and record-keeping to maintain product consistency. Perform cleaning in place (CIP) and maintenance of brewing equipment and facilities to ensure a safe and efficient work environment. Adhere strictly to recipes, processes, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), remaining open to innovation and process improvements. Proactively maintain a culture of safety by using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhering to best practices. Collaborate closely with the brewing team for effective problem-solving and operations management. Demonstrate a willingness to listen to and consider diverse viewpoints on business operations, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace. Operate various machinery such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and scissor lifts as needed to support brewing operations. Perform various brewing quality test procedures, such as use of Anton Paar Alcolyzer, DMA, pH meters, grist analysis, Dissolved Oxygen meters, Carbon Dioxide measurements, Nexcelom Cellometer, auto pipettes and basic lab glassware. Assist with preventative maintenance procedures as needed for brewing and testing equipment. Train in and perform packaging operations as necessary, showcasing adaptability and team cooperation. Participation in sensory training and panels.
Requirements:
Minimum two years of professional brewing experience, with formal brewing education preferred. Strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in brewing and fermentation operations. Excellent multitasking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team. Effective organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Proficiency in brewing software and technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google G Suite, Orchestrated Beer), and familiarity with equipment like GEA Westfalia centrifuges. Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends, in alignment with operational needs, and the ability to work overtime as required. Physical capability to meet the demands of the brewing process, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, kneeling, working in various conditions with wide temperature ranges (indoors, outdoors, coolers, etc.), and using ladders.
