We brew a diverse portfolio ranging from traditional German lagers and Belgian ales to IPAs, seasonal specialties, and experimental small-batch beers. As we continue expanding our production and distribution throughout Tennessee while opening our second location in Knoxville, we're looking for an experienced, passionate brewer who wants to grow with us . Our brewing philosophy combines traditional European brewing techniques, including decoction mashing, extended lagering, and careful yeast management with modern hop-forward beers and innovative seasonal releases. Position Summary The Brewer is responsible for producing consistent, world-class beer while maintaining the highest standards of quality, sanitation, and safety. Working closely with the Head Brewer and production team, this position will participate in every aspect of brewery production from grain handling through packaging. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both the science and craftsmanship of brewing and takes pride in producing exceptional beer. Primary Responsibilities Brewhouse Operations Milling and raw material handling Mash-in and wort production Lautering and boil management Hop additions Whirlpool operations Knockout and yeast pitching Follow production schedules and recipes precisely Cellar Operations Fermentation management Gravity and pH monitoring Yeast harvesting and storage Dry hopping Tank transfers Carbonation Clarification Tank scheduling Beer conditioning Packaging Keg cleaning and filling Packaging support Quality checks during packaging Finished beer sampling Inventory rotation Quality Control Collect production samples Maintain accurate brewing records Monitor fermentation performance Perform sensory evaluations Assist with quality improvement initiatives Identify process improvements Sanitation & Safety Perform CIP procedures Maintain brewery cleanliness Follow all OSHA and safety guidelines Follow all TTB and Tennessee regulatory requirements Maintain a clean, organized production facility Ensure all brewery equipment is cleaned and sanitized to company standards Maintenance Perform preventative maintenance Troubleshoot brewery equipment Report equipment issues promptly Assist with repairs when appropriate Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required Minimum 2 years of professional brewing experience in a commercial brewery Strong understanding of brewing science Knowledge of fermentation management Understanding of sanitation and CIP procedures Ability to maintain detailed production records Excellent organizational skills Strong work ethic Positive attitude Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team Preferred Brewing degree or certificate (Siebel, American Brewers Guild, UC Davis, etc.) Dry hopping techniques Yeast management Brewery software (Ekos, Ollie, Beer30 or similar) Mechanical troubleshooting Forklift certification Packaging line experience Physical Requirements Lift and carry 55 pounds repeatedly Move full kegs safely Climb ladders Work at heights Stand for extended periods Work in hot, cold, wet, and noisy environments Work around cleaning chemicals while following PPE requirements What Makes Iron Forge Different?
