Job Description

The Stanford Park Hotel has earned the #1 traveler reviewed position on TripAdvisor since 2000. We offer retreat-like amenities and our friendly and knowledgeable team will ensure our guests have a memorable stay. Set in the heart of forward-looking Silicon Valley, the Menlo Tavern celebrates the past thinkers, dreamers and doers who conspired together over delicious food and drink. Our menu features a balanced selection of hearty and lighter fare, inspired by elevated American dishes and California's seasonal approach to food. We are seeking a Restaurant Host to join our award-winning team. Our hosts bring the Woodside Spirit to life when they greet and escort our guests to the tables in Menlo Tavern. They supervise and coordinate activities of the dining area personnel to provide fast and courteous service to patrons to ensure guest satisfaction and to ensure the highest quality standards are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Schedules dining reservations and makes the necessary arrangements for special functions in the Restaurant. Meets and greets guests as they arrive, escorts them to tables, and presents menus. Promptly answers the Restaurant telephone within three rings using the correct daytime greeting and proper telephone etiquette. Assigns work tasks and coordinates activities of dining room personnel to ensure prompt and courteous service to patrons. Inspects dining room serving stations for neatness and cleanliness, and requisitions table linens and other dining room supplies for tables and serving stations. Prepares beverages and assists in expediting food orders. Follow all safety, hygiene and cleanliness protocols at all times. Assists in maintaining an open line of communications between guests, management and team member. Assists in refilling guests' beverages throughout the Restaurant as requested. Supervises dining room in absence of the Manager. May take Room Service orders over telephone and relays orders to Kitchen, if Room Service Staff is not available Makes change for the food servers when needed. Balances cash bank at the end of the shift and requisitions for needed change. All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the Hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Hotel. Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with the Hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of Restaurant operation, to include appropriate staffing levels, service equipment and guest relations. Able to communicate effectively with the public and other team members. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English. Able to effectively deal with customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner. This involves listening to the nature of the concern demonstrating empathy with the guest and providing positive and proactive solutions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to recite and promote a variety of menu items. Ability to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money Ability to move through a crowded room to seat guests. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Meets legal age requirements for the position. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. High school diploma is preferred. Prior Hospitality experience is also preferred.

This is the pay range for this position that the Hotel reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual wage rates will be based on a number of factors, such as experience, type of hotel experience and education.
