Job Description

Host / Cashier — Mariscos Choix (Pico Rivera)
Location:
Pico Rivera, CA Employment Type:
Part Time Compensation:
$18.00 to $19.00 per hour plus tips Please Read This Entire Posting Before Applying Do not apply unless you can communicate effectively in both English and Spanish, meet the mandatory weekend availability, attend all scheduled paid training, and consistently deliver high standards of hospitality, professionalism, and accountability on every shift. This is not a typical host or cashier position. If you are looking for a role where you simply seat guests, answer phones, or run a register, this is not a fit. Do not apply unless you can meet the requirements below. Position Purpose The Host/Cashier is the first and last impression of Mariscos Choix. You set the tone for the entire dining experience, from the moment a guest arrives to the moment they leave. This role exists to make every guest feel welcomed, cared for, and confident that they are in good hands, while keeping seating flow and payments accurate and organized during high-volume service. Essential Responsibilities Greet and welcome every guest promptly, warmly, and professionally. Manage reservations, waitlists, and seating flow efficiently and accurately. Answer phone calls and communicate clearly with guests in both English and Spanish. Process cash and card transactions accurately using the POS system. Communicate wait times, order questions, payments, and restaurant policies clearly to guests in both languages. Take ownership of guest concerns and support guest recovery calmly and professionally. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional host and cashier station. Communicate effectively with front-of-house and back-of-house teams. Support overall guest flow and the complete guest experience throughout the shift. Non-Negotiable Performance Standards These standards are non-negotiable. Apply only if you can meet all of them, every shift: Acknowledge guests promptly and communicate warmly and professionally. Anticipate guest needs and support the entire guest experience. Protect order accuracy and presentation. Take personal ownership of guest concerns. Maintain hospitality and composure during high-volume periods. Never allow internal pressure to become the guest's problem. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Professional communication with guests and coworkers. Ability to work with urgency in a high-volume restaurant. Coachability, with immediate application of feedback. Teamwork and personal accountability. Compliance with all company policies, recipes, procedures, and standards. We do not lower our standards when the restaurant becomes busy. Busy periods are when our standards matter most. This position is not a fit for someone who needs constant supervision, resists feedback, or treats hospitality as optional when the restaurant is full. Required Experience At least 1 year of experience in a host, cashier, or comparable guest-facing restaurant role. This experience is required, not preferred. Bilingual Requirement Bilingual English and Spanish communication is required for this guest-facing position. This role interacts directly with guests who speak only Spanish and guests who speak only English. You must be able to communicate effectively in both languages regarding menu items, orders, guest requests, wait times, payments, restaurant policies, service problems, and guest recovery. This is a language-skill requirement. We evaluate communication ability only, not accent, ethnicity, or national origin. Schedule and Availability This is a part-time position. Weekend availability is mandatory. You must be able to meet the stated availability requirements to be considered. Mandatory Paid Training Attendance at every scheduled paid training session is mandatory. Candidates must confirm availability for the complete training schedule before accepting employment. Arriving late, leaving early, or missing required training without a legally protected reason or management-approved emergency may result in disqualification or separation from employment. Employees must successfully complete training and position certification before working independently. Training includes scheduled monthly in-person training and paid off-site weekday training. All required training is paid and accurately recorded. Completing the training hours does not automatically guarantee certification. You must demonstrate the required knowledge, hospitality, execution, and professional behavior to be certified for the position. Compensation $18.00 to $19.00 per hour plus tips. Growth Opportunity This position can serve as a pathway for team members who want to grow within the restaurant. Team members who consistently demonstrate strong hospitality, reliability, and performance as a Host/Cashier may be eligible to be considered for advancement to a Server position after approximately 9 months to 1 year in the role. Advancement is based on performance, professionalism, and the consistent ability to uphold the standards of Mariscos Choix. Applicant Acknowledgment To be considered, you must confirm the following in your application: "I confirm that I read the complete job posting and understand the experience, availability, bilingual, paid training, and performance requirements for this position." Applicants who do not answer the required questions or who cannot meet a mandatory requirement will not advance. How to Apply Submit your resume through Indeed. In your application, include the confirmation statement above and briefly describe your relevant restaurant experience and your English and Spanish communication ability. Equal Employment Opportunity Mariscos Choix is an equal opportunity employer. Hiring decisions are based on qualifications and the ability to perform the responsibilities of the role.
