Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:
Serve as local host of NPR's "Morning Edition" and creator of the BSPR weekday podcast "The Connector." Assist in daily reporting, news planning and editing. Stays atop daily local and national news through multiple sources. Selects and rewrites stories for air. Edits scripts for accuracy, timeliness and proper usage. Arranges newscasts, billboards and other on-air content including reporting and producing two-ways for show. Presents content live on-air in an authoritative and conversational manner that connects with local listeners.
Department Overview:
Boise State Public Radio is Idaho's largest nonprofit, listener-supported NPR member station, reaching the region's metropolitan and rural areas. Our radio network serves two-thirds of the population of Idaho through 28 transmitters & translators, as well as on digital platforms. As the only sources of quality public radio news, classical music, jazz and unique cultural programming, our radio stations are distinct in their mission, their audience and their partnerships.
Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
  • Presents content live on-air and on a daily podcast in an authoritative and conversational manner that connects with local listeners.
  • Assist in daily news gathering, writing and editing.
  • Stays atop daily local and national news through multiple sources.
  • Adheres to editorial and ethical standards and writes scripts for accuracy, timeliness and proper usage.
  • Arranges newscasts, billboards and other on-air content including producing two-ways for show and reporting spots and features.
  • Participate in special programming, fundraising programs and events.
  • High-profile position requiring a responsible, informed ambassador for Boise State Public Radio.
  • May perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of editorial environment.
  • Skilled in audio production.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of good news judgement and ability to give and receive criticism.
Experience:
in public radio broadcast experience; writing, broadcasting, editing, voicework, production, and familiarity with recording equipment.
  • Knowledge of mission and vision public broadcasting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • More than 3 years of experience in hosting, reporting or producing the news.
  • Fluent in digital audio production.
  • Self-starter with technical know-how to troubleshoot during breaking-news or breaking-tech situations.
Salary and Benefit s:
Salary range is $60,673.60 to $72,000 annually and is commensurate with experience.
