$18.00 per hour Reports to: Shelter Coordinator About Hope and Harbor Hope and Harbor provides safe, overnight shelter and compassionate support for individuals experiencing homelessness in Goodhue County. Through partnerships with community organizations, we ensure that every guest has access to dignity, safety, and pathways toward long-term stability. Position Overview The Overnight Navigator plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of guests during overnight shelter operations. This position involves guest registration, facility monitoring, crisis response, and coordination of morning transition routines. Overnight Navigators provide direct support to guests while maintaining a safe, welcoming environment that reflects the mission of Hope and Harbor. Key Responsibilities Overnight Monitoring & Guest Support Perform scheduled bed checks: 10:15pm, 11:15pm, 12:15am, 1:15am, 2:15am, 3:15am, 4:15am, 5:15am, 6:15am Respond to guest needs and provide support throughout the night. Supervise sleeping rooms, kitchen, and social areas to ensure a safe and respectful environment. Conduct exterior door security checks during overnight shifts. Assist with smoke breaks for guests at 10:00pm and 6:30am. Morning Transition & Facility Care Wake guests at 6:30am and assist with morning routines. Coordinate breakfast preparation and service for guests. Notify staff at The Next Step of guests needing showers and laundry needs if applicable. Support cleanup of sleeping rooms, kitchen, and social spaces according to church requirements. Document guest departures and complete church safety check before leaving each morning. Communication & Reporting Maintain accurate records in the team communication application (Slack) each shift. Report incidents, concerns, or facility needs promptly to the Shelter Coordinator. Qualifications & Requirements Previous experience in human services, shelter operations, or a related field preferred. Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsive during overnight shifts. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with a calm, compassionate approach. Commitment to trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and working with diverse populations. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and collaboratively. Must pass a background check. Benefits $18.00/hour. Opportunities for training and professional growth.
