Position Summary We are looking for dependable, friendly team members who take pride in hospitality, teamwork, cleanliness, organization, and creating a welcoming guest experience. Our Hosts play an essential role in setting the tone for each visit by greeting guests warmly, managing the flow of the dining room, and supporting smooth front-of-house operations. The Host greets and seats guests, manages wait times and reservations, answers phones, assists with takeout orders, and helps keep the dining room clean, organized, and ready for service. This position is responsible for guest flow, accurate seating rotation, communication with servers and managers, maintaining the host stand and entry area, bussing and resetting tables, and helping ensure guests are acknowledged and cared for throughout their visit. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, approachable, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and able to stay calm and professional during busy periods. Key Responsibilities Greet guests promptly and provide exceptional customer service. Manage seating, waitlists, and reservations while balancing server sections. Answer phones and assist with guest questions, takeout pickups, and special requests. Keep the host stand, entrance, menus, and waiting areas clean and organized. Communicate with the front-of-house team and perform additional duties as assigned. Bus and reset tables promptly by clearing dishes, glassware, and trash; wiping and sanitizing tables and seats; and preparing tables for the next guests. Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a current Food Safety Certification, or agree to obtain one within 90 days of hire. Customer service, restaurant, or cash handling experience preferred. Night and weekend availability preferred. Remain calm, organized, and professional in a busy guest-facing environment. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Reliable transportation to and from work. Ability to work independently and complete assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision. Willingness to cross-train and assist in other restaurant areas as needed. Commitment to professional conduct, food quality, and exceptional hospitality consistent with "Serving Those Who Serve." Ability to pass a background check if required by company policy or applicable law. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as a host, hostess, server assistant, busser, cashier, or other restaurant or customer-service team member. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a friendly, professional approach to guests. Experience managing guest seating, waitlists, reservations, or front-of-house flow preferred. Night and weekend availability. Dependable attendance, punctuality, and a positive, team-oriented attitude. Ability to remain organized, calm, and professional during high-volume service periods. Schedule Requirements Scheduling is based on business needs and may include: Day shifts Evening shifts Night shifts Weekend shifts Holiday shifts Night and weekend availability is preferred. Physical Requirements The host must be able to: Stand and walk for most or all of the scheduled shift. Lift up to 25 pounds. Work in a fast-paced environment. Work Environment This position works primarily in the restaurant's front-of-house areas and requires attention to detail, urgency, teamwork, organization, and clear communication with guests and other team members. Team members may be exposed to: Frequent interaction with guests, servers, managers, and other team members Extended periods of standing and walking Moderate to high noise levels Busy service periods with frequent interruptions and changing priorities Wet or slippery floors Food, beverage, and cleaning-product odors Crowded dining and entry areas during peak periods Repetitive tasks such as seating guests, answering phones, bussing tables, and resetting dining areas Situations requiring multiple guest requests and operational tasks to be handled at the same time Occasional entry into kitchen or service areas, which may involve brief exposure to heat, steam, cooking equipment, grease, and other typical commercial-kitchen conditions What Success Looks Like Successful Hosts/Hostesses consistently demonstrate: Warm, professional, and attentive guest service Prompt and accurate greeting, seating, and waitlist management Efficient and balanced seating of server sections Clear communication with guests, servers, managers, and other team members Clean, organized, and guest-ready entry, host, and dining areas Prompt bussing and resetting of tables Accurate handling of reservations, phone calls, and takeout orders Dependable attendance and punctuality A calm, professional attitude during both routine and high-volume shifts Equal Employment Opportunity The Bunker Bar & Grill is an equal opportunity employer.
