Job Description

Position Overview The School-Year Counselor/Host at Bethelwoods Camp & Conference Center is responsible for helping create a safe, welcoming, and meaningful experience for campers and guests throughout the school year. This position works closely with the Program Director, camp leadership, and other staff to support retreats, school field trips, weekend groups, conferences, special events, and other Bethelwoods programs. The School-Year Counselor serves as a positive role model for children and youth while helping facilitate activities, maintain a safe environment, and represent the mission and values of Bethelwoods. Primary Responsibilities Camper & Guest Care Provide supervision and support to campers, students, and guests. Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate appropriate behavior at all times. Build positive relationships with children, youth and guests while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Help create an environment where all campers and guests feel welcomed, respected, and included. Report safety concerns, injuries, incidents, or other issues to the appropriate leadership staff. Program & Activity Facilitation Lead and assist with camp activities such as games, outdoor recreation, team-building activities, crafts and other programmed experiences. Learn and follow all activity procedures and safety guidelines. Prepare activity areas and equipment before programs begin. Keep activity areas clean and organized. Adapt activities when necessary to accommodate different ages, abilities, group sizes, or weather conditions. Remain actively engaged with participants rather than simply supervising from the sidelines. School Groups & Field Trips Assist with school field trips and educational programs. Help lead students through scheduled activities and rotations. Encourage teamwork, participation, problem-solving, and positive group interaction. Communicate professionally with teachers, chaperones, and group leaders. Help ensure that school groups remain on schedule and follow Bethelwoods safety expectations. Retreats & Guest Groups Assist with weekend retreats, church groups, conferences, and other guest programs. Help with check-in, orientation, activities, meals, recreation, and other program needs as assigned. Provide friendly and professional customer service to guests. Help groups understand and follow Bethelwoods policies and procedures. Professional Expectations All School-Year Counselors/Host are expected to: Arrive on time and prepared for assigned shifts. Dress appropriately for camp activities and maintain a professional appearance. Follow the chain of command. Follow all Bethelwoods policies and staff expectations. Maintain confidentiality regarding campers, families, guests, and staff. Use appropriate language and behavior around campers. Maintain appropriate physical, emotional, and digital boundaries with campers. Refrain from inappropriate relationships or communication with campers. Never engage in bullying, harassment, discrimination, theft, violence, or other inappropriate conduct. Represent Bethelwoods professionally while on and off the property when acting in an official camp capacity.
Qualifications Preferred candidates will:
Be at least 18 years old . Have experience working with children or youth. Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills. Be dependable, responsible, and willing to work as part of a team. Be comfortable working outdoors and participating in physical activities. Be willing to learn and lead new activities. Have a positive attitude and a willingness to serve others. Be able to respond calmly and appropriately in challenging situations. Support the mission and values of Bethelwoods Camp & Conference Center. Previous camp, childcare, education, recreation, youth ministry, or leadership experience is preferred but not required. Physical & Environmental Requirements The position may require staff to: Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Stand, walk, bend, lift, carry, and move equipment. Participate in recreational and team-building activities. Work flexible hours based on the needs of guest groups and programs. Occasionally work evenings, weekends, or extended program days. Reasonable accommodations may be considered where appropriate. Schedule The School-Year Counselor/Host position may include: Weekday field trips School programs Weekend retreats Church groups Special events Conferences Seasonal programs Other programs and events scheduled by Bethelwoods Schedules may vary based on the camp calendar and the needs of individual groups.

From $70.00 per day
