Gates Tennis Center is a well-established, high volume tennis and pickleball center in the heart of Denver's Cherry Creek neighborhood. Boasting 16 tennis courts and 18 pickleball courts, Gates is accessible and has something for everyone! There are court times, ball machine, private and group lesson, group drills, junior programs, social play, competition and so much more.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Front Desk Manager leads the front desk operation at Gates Tennis Center and is responsible for providing a consistent, welcoming, and professional experience for players and program participants. The manager supervises front desk staff, hires and reviews front desk staff, coordinates daily coverage, maintains strong cash-handling and administrative controls, resolves customer concerns, and supports court reservations, registrations, leagues, tournaments, camps, retail activity, and facility communication. This position works closely with front desk staff, assistant directors, and facility management to keep daily operations organized, accurate, and responsive.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manage the daily front desk operation and serve as the primary point of accountability for service standards, workflow, organization, and follow-through. Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, coach, and support front desk staff in coordination with the Director of Operations. Set clear performance expectations, provide timely feedback, document recurring issues, and participate in employee performance reviews and corrective action as assigned. Build and maintain front desk schedules that provide appropriate coverage for regular hours, programs, tournaments, leagues, camps, special events, and seasonal demand. Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed accurately and consistently, including register reconciliation, facility checks, and communication of unresolved issues. Oversee cash handling, point-of-sale transactions, refunds or account adjustments within assigned authority, daily deposits, and reconciliation procedures. Monitor court reservations, registrations, memberships, program enrollment, guest accounts, and retail transactions or accuracy and timely follow-up. Respond to guest questions and resolve escalated concerns calmly, fairly, and professionally; involve senior management when an issue exceeds assigned authority. Coordinate front desk support for tennis and pickleball programming, leagues, tournaments, camps, lessons, and community events. Maintain current front desk procedures, reference materials, staff communications, and training resources. Communicate important operational information clearly through shift notes, email, meetings, and direct conversation with staff and management. Monitor inventory of front desk, office, retail, and vending supplies; coordinate reordering and report discrepancies. Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional front desk, lobby, retail, and guest-service area. Follow and reinforce facility policies, emergency procedures, incident-reporting requirements, privacy expectations, and workplace safety practices. Review basic front desk activity and service trends and recommend process improvements to the Director of Operations. Perform other related duties as assigned to support facility operations and the guest experience.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide visible, hands-on leadership and model dependable attendance, sound judgment, respectful communication, and excellent customer service. Hold regular check-ins or team meetings and ensure employees understand current programs, policies, promotions, and operational priorities. Coordinate coverage for absences and urgent schedule changes and communicate staffing concerns promptly. Identify training needs and verify that employees can complete required front desk, cash-control, reservation, safety, and customer-service procedures. Partner with management on hiring recommendations, employee development, performance concerns, and front desk operating improvements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
At least four years of customer service experience, including experience in a public-facing environment. Prior supervisory, team-lead, or management experience. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm and professional during busy or difficult situations. High level of accuracy and integrity when handling cash, payments, customer accounts, confidential information, and operational records. Ability to learn and use reservation, registration, point-of-sale, email, scheduling, and standard office systems. Ability to work independently, make appropriate decisions within assigned authority, and seek direction when needed. Dependable attendance and availability for a schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
EDUCATION AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Undergraduate College Degree; college coursework or an undergraduate degree in business, recreation, hospitality, sports management, or a related field is preferred 4+ years in customer service Experience in a tennis, pickleball, recreation, sports, hospitality, retail, or community-center environment is preferred. Tennis or pickleball playing or teaching experience is helpful but not required. Racquet stringing experience, retail merchandising experience, or mechanical aptitude is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Public-facing, active position in a busy racquet sports facility. Regular desk and computer work combined with movement throughout the facility. Frequent interaction with guests, employees, instructors, vendors, and management. Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and occasionally move supplies or equipment consistent with assigned duties

$26.00 - $36.00 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 - 40.0 per week
