Job Description

Looking for an opportunity to pair the career opportunity you need with the adventurous lifestyle you love? Join the premier wilderness lodge and outfitter in northern Minnesota and live, work, and play in the Minnesota Northwoods, just steps away from the legendary Boundary Waters in the heart of the Superior National Forest. Gunflint Lodge is located 45 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais, Minnesota, our nearest town. We are surrounded by over 1 million acres of wilderness in the Superior National Forest. Guests come from all over the world to relax, fish, swim, canoe, and explore in the Northwoods atmosphere. About Us Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters is a legendary Northwoods wilderness resort located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. For 100 years we have served guests seeking outstanding dining, wilderness adventures, weddings, retreats, and seasonal events. About the Role Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters is seeking an organized, personable hospitality professional for a permanent, year-round position combining Guest Services with wedding and event coordination at our wilderness resort in northern Minnesota. This is an unusual opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in hospitality and event planning. You'll be part of our Guest Services team throughout the year while taking primary responsibility for helping couples and groups plan and execute weddings and special events at Gunflint Lodge. The wedding and event portion of the position generally represents approximately one-half to three-quarters of a full-time role, depending on the season and event calendar. The balance of the position is spent in Guest Services. We provide dedicated planning time for weddings and events, while quieter periods at the front desk also provide opportunities to work on event details and client communication. The Wedding & Event Side of the Role Gunflint Lodge has hosted guests in the Minnesota Northwoods for more than 100 years, and weddings here are true destination experiences. Couples may hold their ceremony overlooking Gunflint Lake, families and friends gather for reunions at the resort, and businesses and retreats come to focus on team building and development far from the distractions of city life. These groups rely on us to coordinate lodging, dining, activities and the many details that bring their special events together. You'll serve as a primary point of contact for wedding couples and other event clients from the planning process through execution.
Responsibilities include:
Responding to wedding and event inquiries and helping prospective clients understand the Gunflint experience Guiding couples through venue, lodging, food and beverage, activity and event options Preparing proposals and helping convert qualified inquiries into booked events Maintaining regular communication with couples throughout the planning process Coordinating timelines, room arrangements, menus, bar selections, ceremony and reception details, vendors and special requests Maintaining accurate event files, contracts, deposits and planning information Preparing event details and communicating them clearly to Restaurant, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Guest Services and other departments Being present for and helping oversee weddings and events as needed Anticipating problems and making sure important details don't fall through the cracks Conducting post-event follow-up and helping us continually improve our wedding and event program Coordinating other groups and special events, including retreats, reunions, celebrations and business gatherings You won't be doing this alone. Successful events at Gunflint are a team effort, but you will be the person responsible for keeping the planning process organized and moving forward. The Guest Services Side of the Role When you aren't working specifically on weddings and events, you'll be part of the year-round Guest Services team at the center of the resort operation.
You'll:
Welcome guests and provide professional, friendly Front Desk and Guest Services support Handle check-ins, check-outs and lodging reservations Answer phones, emails and guest questions Help guests plan dining, activities, rentals and other parts of their stays Process payments and maintain accurate guest and reservation information Coordinate guest stays with Housekeeping, Maintenance, Restaurant, Outfitting and other departments Resolve guest concerns and follow requests through to completion Learn our lodging, packages, activities and resort operation to confidently help guests make the most of their time at Gunflint The combination is intentional: working directly with resort guests gives our wedding coordinator a thorough understanding of the property and guest experience, while event planning provides an opportunity to develop deeper expertise and take ownership of an important part of our business. Who We're Looking For We're looking for someone with the organization, communication skills, judgment and follow-through to become excellent at both parts of this role. You may be a particularly good fit if you have experience in hospitality, weddings or events, lodging, catering, guest services, tourism, restaurant or banquet operations, administrative coordination, sales, or another role where you've sold events or activities, planned and executed events over a period of time, or coordinated a lot of details and people at the same time.
The right person will be:
Exceptionally organized and attentive to detail A strong written and verbal communicator Warm and professional with guests and clients Comfortable discussing pricing, packages and options with prospective clients Able to manage multiple weddings and events, deadlines and follow-up items without losing track of details Dependable about completing what they promise without constant reminders Calm and resourceful when plans change Comfortable working independently while coordinating across several departments Proficient with computers and comfortable learning reservation and event-planning systems Available for weekends and holidays when weddings, events or resort operations require it Interested in developing a long-term, year-round career, not simply a seasonal Northwoods job Previous wedding or event-planning experience is strongly preferred, but we would consider an exceptional hospitality or administrative candidate with the right organizational skills and aptitude to grow into the event-planning responsibilities. A Career in Northwoods Hospitality Working here isn't the same as taking a job in town. Most of our team live right on site where they're interacting with team members and guests on a daily basis. That's part of the appeal for the right person. Our team gets to know our guests, our property and one another in a way that's difficult to duplicate in a conventional hotel environment. We're looking for someone who wants to become part of that operation for the long term, develop expertise in destination weddings and resort hospitality, and take genuine ownership of an important part of the Gunflint guest experience. Compensation & Benefits $19.00-$22.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience $100-$500 bonus for completed events Full-time, year-round employment Discounted onsite employee housing available 401(k) with company contribution after eligibility requirements are met Paid time off and ESST Employee discounts on lodging, dining, retail and activities Recreational opportunities and equipment privileges Opportunity to grow professionally within a year-round destination resort How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief note explaining why you'd be a great fit for the Guest Experience & Events team at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters or apply online at gunflint.com/employment.
