About the Alaska Zoo The Alaska Zoo is a 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the conservation of Arctic, sub-Arctic, and like climate species through education, research, and community enrichment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Guest Services Manager oversees all aspects of the zoo's front of house experience, ensuring every visitor feels welcome, informed, and supported. This role manages daily guest operations, including admissions, memberships and guest relations to create a safe, engaging, and mission driven environment for guests. The ideal candidate is a positive, organized, and solutions focused- leader who thrives in a dynamic setting and enjoys working with people and connecting them to wildlife. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Provides oversight for the day-to-day operations of Guest Services including admissions, concessions, inventory, ordering and opening and closing shifts. Serves as the primary point of contact for the Alaska Zoo, addressing guest needs, including greeting and directing visitors assisting with lost persons, directing visitors to zoo staff, assisting guests with questions or complaints, screening and answering incoming calls from the public or zoo staff. Provides leadership and oversight of Guest Services staff, including training, scheduling, and enforcement of standards, policies, and procedures. Maintains State of Alaska Food Protection Manager status and oversees safe food handling practices of Guest Services staff. Assist with daily reconciliation of tills and building weekly cash deposits. Member stewardship including the planning and execution of monthly member appreciation events. Scheduling of benefits associated with membership levels. Assists with various off-site tasks.
Education or Skills:
High school diploma. Management Experience - 1 year minimum or a minimum of 3 years in a customer service role. Proficient in MS Office. Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently. Must have strong cash handling skills. Commitment to the mission of the Alaska Zoo.
Position Requirements:
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, holidays and in emergencies. Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds regularly and up to one hundred (100) pounds occasionally. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in a physically demanding environment. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
