Job Summary The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for assisting the General Manager in the overall operation, financial performance, and guest satisfaction of the hotel. The AGM provides leadership to all departments, ensures brand standards are consistently met, and helps create a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and exceptional guest service. This position oversees the day-to-day operations of the hotel, including front office, housekeeping, maintenance . The AGM supports staffing, training, scheduling, payroll, budgeting, inventory control, and revenue management while ensuring compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and brand requirements. The Assistant General Manager serves as the Manager on Duty as assigned, resolves guest concerns promptly and professionally, monitors hotel performance metrics, and works closely with department leaders to achieve occupancy, revenue, labor, and guest satisfaction goals. The AGM also assists with sales initiatives, quality assurance inspections, preventive maintenance programs, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills who leads by example and is committed to delivering outstanding hospitality. This role is expected to step into the General Manager's responsibilities in their absence and ensure the hotel operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness, and profitability Responsibilities Assist the General Manager in the daily operation and overall management of the hotel. Lead hotel operations to ensure exceptional guest service and satisfaction. Act as Manager on Duty (MOD) and make operational decisions in the absence of the General Manager. Supervise and support all hotel departments, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Breakfast/Food & Beverage (if applicable), and Guest Services. Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, and develop team members while fostering a positive work environment. Prepare employee schedules and manage labor costs to meet budgeted goals. Monitor payroll, productivity, and staffing levels to ensure efficient operations. Resolve guest concerns promptly, professionally, and in accordance with company service standards. Ensure compliance with brand standards, company policies, and all local, state, and federal regulations. Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and hotel grounds to ensure cleanliness, safety, and quality standards. Monitor property maintenance needs and work with the maintenance team to ensure timely completion of repairs and preventive maintenance. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and expense control. Review daily revenue reports, occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), RevPAR, and labor reports to identify opportunities for improvement. Support revenue management strategies to maximize occupancy and profitability. Monitor inventory levels and approve purchasing of operating supplies and equipment. Assist with accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash handling, and daily audit procedures. Maintain accurate operational records, reports, and documentation. Ensure compliance with safety, security, emergency, and risk management procedures. Support sales efforts by maintaining relationships with local businesses, corporate accounts, and community organizations. Participate in hotel marketing initiatives and community events to increase hotel visibility. Conduct daily stand-up meetings and communicate operational priorities to department leaders. Promote teamwork, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement. Assist with quality assurance inspections and implement corrective action plans. Ensure all guest complaints, maintenance issues, and service requests are documented and resolved promptly. Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager to ensure the successful operation of the hotel. Experience Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive hotel management or supervisory experience, preferably in a branded hotel environment. Previous experience in front office operations is required; experience overseeing housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage (if applicable), and sales is preferred. Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing hotel teams while maintaining high levels of employee engagement and guest satisfaction. Experience managing hotel financial performance, including labor costs, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, and expense control. Working knowledge of revenue management principles, occupancy strategies, ADR, RevPAR, and rate management. Experience resolving guest concerns and service recovery while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Familiarity with hotel property management systems (PMS), point-of-sale systems, and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience conducting quality assurance inspections and ensuring compliance with brand standards and company policies. Proven ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to build positive relationships with guests, team members, and business partners.
