What they do

A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

On a substitute basis, provide students with a safe, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED. 2. Good physical condition. 3. Valid Alaska Driver's License preferred. 4. Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment. 5. Ability to carry out the duties described below.
Duties:
1. Scrub, clean and disinfect restrooms and locker rooms and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. 2. Sweep or vacuum classrooms, dust furniture, and clean all chalk boards daily. 3. Clean halls after school, and during the day if required. 4. Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, play areas, and grounds neat and clean at all times. 5. Shovel, plow, and/or sand walkways and steps as needed. 6. Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Site Administrator. 7. Reports any damage to school property immediately to the Site Administrator. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.
