Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description The Janitor position provides a wide variety of cleaning services and other related duties required to keep the facilities in a clean and orderly condition. This position will support the Nome Public Schools in Nome, AK. This is a non-rotational position. Hiring local Nome residents only. Responsibilities Clean, sweep, vacuum, mop, sanitize and/or restocks; hallways, stairways, offices, food preparation or break areas, offsite areas, restrooms, public areas, or other work areas as assigned. Opens facilities for non-school usage on weekends and evening events. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, extract, waxes, buff, vacuums, etc. all types of floors using appropriate equipment. Dusts both low and high areas and wipe down or cleans various surfaces. Uses appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for all tasks. Removes and properly disposes of discarded materials. Removes and transports trash to the appropriate disposal areas. May compact trash. May change light bulbs and perform light facility maintenance. May keep building entryways free of snow and debris. May operate a vehicle to work at various locations. Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Some combination or education or experience that evidences a working knowledge of cleaning equipment and general cleaning processes. Must have a working cell phone number to use on the job as cell phone is used to dispatch work. Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English. Preferred Qualifications Prior janitorial/custodian experience preferred.
