A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

POSITION TITLE
Custodian - 12 month
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or Equivalent Must be strong enough to do required work without being subjected to excessive danger to his/her person (i.e., be able to lift heavy objects, bend, twist and squat, work on a ladder without causing dizziness, to carry desks, tables and other heavy furniture or equipment). Recommended minimum age requirements at initial employment — 21. Required physical before employment.
REPORTS TO
Principal (Director) or Principal's designee
RESPONSIBILITIES
Shall be responsible to the principal and shall perform duties as set forth by the principal. Custodians shall keep the principal informed as to maintenance and other repair/custodial needs of the school Custodians should be able to install light bulbs, change door locks and perform other minor maintenance jobs. Work to keep the school facilities and campus neat and clean among other duties. May supervise student custodial employees, along with assistance from the principal. Is custodian of the school property and should prevent depredation around bathrooms, playground and elsewhere. Shall not attempt to punish students, but is duty bound to report questionable activities to the principal. Shall observe, uphold and support the policies and regulations of the Board. Perform any other position related duties as assigned by the principal within reason and not to exceed time limits. Must wear a lift belt when performing duties.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and work year to be according to the current approved/applicable salary schedule .
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
