Reports To Area Facilities Supervisor Supervises None Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs full range of custodial duties for HCS with availability to work varying scheduled hours and days as assigned with the ability to travel to various schools and facilities within the school district; may serve to supplement assignments or substitute for other custodial personnel as needed. Cleans school buildings, facilities, and grounds on a daily or as-assigned basis, including dusting furniture; emptying trash; sweeping and mopping hard surface floors; vacuuming carpets; cleaning windows; washing walls, woodwork, lockers, and chalkboards; polishing surfaces; wiping handrails; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and locker rooms; cleaning bodily fluids resulting from sickness or injury; sweeping and washing walkways, driveways, parking areas, and stairwells; and other tasks as assigned and/or scheduled. Prepares school buildings and facilities for daily operations, including opening doors, checking locks, cleaning hallways and sidewalks, and other tasks, at the beginning and end of each school day or throughout the day as needed. Identifies and addresses potential problems and/or hazards in and around work areas (i.e., classrooms, offices, grounds, halls, restrooms, cafeteria, multipurpose rooms, etc.) in order to prevent possible injuries and ensure site cleanliness and safety. Locks and secures buildings, facilities, and grounds (i.e., doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) in order to minimize property damage, loss, and liability. Operates security systems and responds to immediate custodial, operational, and/or safety alarms and concerns, including facility damage, vandalism, etc., and notifies supervisor or appropriate personnel as needed. Observes and reports needed repairs for equipment, furniture, fixtures, buildings, and other items to supervisor. Completes minor in-school repairs, emergency repairs, and regular maintenance on custodial equipment, school furniture, and fixtures to ensure proper functionality and usability as needed. Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies daily or as needed or requested. Performs special project work as directed by supervisor, such as stripping and refinishing floors, moving and arranging furniture, and other tasks as assigned. Recommends re-ordering of custodial supplies and equipment to supervisor as needed. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications A high school diploma, GED, or sufficient education and experience to perform duties. Experience with custodial work preferred. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license. Physical Requirements Requires exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly. Must walk and stand 95% of work shift. Terms of Employment Twelve month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
