A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Description The incumbent is responsible to clean and maintain the Recreation Center and to provide a safe environment for the users of the same. Job Duties Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers; maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Dust, clean, wash, and vacuum all areas of the facility. Wax, polish, and buff floors. Replenish restroom supplies. Wash windows, walls, and all metal and woodwork. Remove and dispose of litter around the buildings and grounds. Inspect and maintain custodial equipment and small tools, and ensure that they are in proper working condition. Demonstrated ability to repair small mechanical equipment and general handyman duties such as, but not limited to: replacing light bulbs, outlet covers, and/ or other general household maintenance. Open and unlock facilities as needed. Inventory and maintain supplies of custodial equipment in coordination with the Facilities Manager for restocking purposes. Assist with special events and tournaments. Perform other duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and 7 to 11 months of related experience and/or training. Must be proficient in the use of vacuum cleaners and a buffing machine. Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects. Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff. Supplemental Information Must successfully pass criminal background check, including but not limited to convictions, guilty pleas, or no contest pleas to violent offenses, theft offenses, and offenses against children.
