What they do
A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

KNOWLEDGE OF
- proper cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment associated with custodial work;
- routine groundskeeping methods and practices;
- the safe use and operation of equipment and chemicals used in custodial and groundskeeping work;
- proper care and maintenance of custodial and groundskeeping equipment and tools.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects or materials.
- Work both inside and outside in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.
- May be required to lift, carry, and move objects up to 100 lbs.
