Job Description

Job Objective:
Under the immediate supervision of Environmental Services Supervisor and Director, performs work with a high degree of accuracy and skill in the cleaning of assigned area, which results in a clean, safe and sterile environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. General Cleaning (As Assigned) Always uses appropriate chemicals for cleaningAlways uses appropriate safely equipmentAlways wears appropriate uniformClean Assigned AreaPerforms Discharge cleaning of Patient rooms by answering page from SupervisorResponsible for maintaining the hospitals Indoor Plants on all floorResponsible for vacuuming of other carpeted areas on the unitRoutinely shines all stainless steel surfacesRoutinely washes walls and dust vents insuring that walls are not streaked and kept free or blood, stains, and dustPerforms other cleaning tasks as assigned B. General Duties (As Assigned) Ensures ES Aide cart/closet is kept neat and cleanKeeps record of supplies sent outside areas and turns into SupervisorKeeps record of supplies used in Medical Office BuildingOperates Hospital VehicleRemoves and replaces Sharps container to appropriate areaReport equipment in need of repair to SupervisorResponsible for operating the Box Bailer unit according to procedureRoutinely checks all supplies; paper towels, toilet tissue, soap; stocks as neededSigns in/out daily for required keys/beeper an ensures keys/beeper is returned at end of shiftTakes dirty mops/cleaning cloths to department at end of shiftUses universal precautions at all times by wearing gloves, goggles, and washing hands frequentlyWears appropriate Surgery uniform13.Wears appropriate uniform in Central Processing dept C. Medical Waste / Trash (As Assigned) Disposes of medical waste properlyEnsures medical waste, trash, and soiled linen is removed oftenEnsures when transporting trash and medical waste that the carts have a tight fitting lidMakes rounds to patient and department areas to remove trashRemove recyclable items and takes to appropriate collection areaResponsible for obtaining medical waste tracking documentsTransports chemotherapy or radioactive wasteTransports soiled linen D. Auto Clave (As Assigned) Conducts biological tests of the San-I-Pak sterilization processInforms Supervisor immediately if autoclave unit is not functioning properlyMonitors the temperature of the autoclave unitResponsible for changing autoclave temperature control graphResponsible for operating San-l-Pak autoclave according to procedure

Key Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is performed throughout the facility according to individual schedules.

Work involved requires bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

Able to use Personal Protection EquipmentPotential exposure to patient blood or body fluids A detailed description of the physical requirements of this job is maintained in the Employee Health Department.
