A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
The Handyman / Janitorial Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and functional facility. This role performs routine janitorial duties, light building maintenance, minor repairs, supply restocking, and general facility support to ensure the workplace remains sanitary, presentable, and operational for employees, visitors, and customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, offices, common areas, work areas, doors, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces. Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum, and maintain floors, carpets, walkways, and entry areas. Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste according to company procedures. Restock restroom, break room, and janitorial supplies, including paper products, soap, liners, and cleaning materials. Perform minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, repairing small leaks, adjusting doors, assembling furniture, and patching minor wall damage. Inspect the facility regularly and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, equipment issues, or larger repair needs to management. Maintain janitorial closets, tools, equipment, and supplies in a clean, organized, and safe condition. Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, supporting special projects, and completing general facility tasks as assigned. Maintain exterior areas as needed, including sweeping walkways, removing debris, and keeping entrances clean and safe. Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals, tools, ladders, and equipment. Qualifications Previous janitorial, custodial, handyman, facility maintenance, or related experience preferred. Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, cleaning chemicals, maintenance tools, and safe work practices. Ability to perform minor repairs using basic hand tools and facility equipment. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify cleaning, safety, and maintenance needs. Ability to work independently, follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments on time. Dependable attendance, professional conduct, and willingness to support changing facility needs. High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, push, pull, and perform repetitive cleaning and maintenance tasks. Must be able to lift and carry supplies, tools, trash bags, and equipment as required by the job. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, dust, odors, noise, wet floors, outdoor weather conditions, and minor maintenance hazards. Must use required personal protective equipment and follow all company safety procedures.
