SCHOOL CUSTODIAN

Working hours for this role are from 2:00pm-11:30pm, M-F.

Objective and Job Summary:

The Custodian supports the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the campus by performing custodial, grounds, and light maintenance duties that help create a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained learning environment for students, staff, and families. This role is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout campus facilities and supporting daily school operations, event setup, and campus safety procedures. The Custodian plays an important role in ensuring students and staff can learn and work in a clean and sanitary environment. This position reports directly to the Principal and collaborates closely with site- and network-level operations staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Campus Cleaning & Custodial Operations Perform general cleaning and sanitation of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, lunch areas, multipurpose spaces, and campus grounds. Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, disinfect, polish, and remove trash to maintain a safe and sanitary campus environment. Maintain floors, walls, fixtures, furniture, and other campus areas using appropriate cleaning methods and equipment. Perform periodic deep-cleaning projects including walls, ceilings, floors, and other assigned custodial tasks. Facilities Support & Campus Readiness Assist with minor repairs and maintenance tasks as assigned. Prepare and set up rooms and campus spaces for meetings, assemblies, events, and school activities. Assist with campus readiness for daily operations, testing, and special events. Support custodial and operational needs during after-school activities and functions as assigned. Safety & Security Help secure buildings and campus areas by locking and unlocking doors and monitoring campus conditions. Identify and report safety concerns, vandalism, maintenance needs, or operational issues to site leadership. Support safe handling, storage, and use of custodial supplies, cleaning chemicals, and equipment. Follow all safety procedures and operational protocols. Professional Responsibilities Maintain professionalism and positive working relationships with students, staff, families, and visitors. Follow all safety procedures, operational protocols, and school policies. Support schoolwide events, operational needs, and campus initiatives as assigned. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous custodial experience preferred. Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, materials, and custodial equipment. Ability to safely use cleaning supplies, disinfectants, and custodial tools. Ability to follow oral and written directions. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, moving equipment, bending, and standing for extended periods of time. Strong reliability, organization, and teamwork skills. Physical Abilities:

Frequent sitting, standing, or walking much of the time with some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and climbing stairs. Frequently lift, push, pull, and/or move a minimum of 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the essential functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling, stooping, bending, crouching and significant fine finger dexterity, and some climbing and balancing. The job requires about 5% sitting, 70% walking, and 25% standing. Must be able to lift, carry, and move a minimum of 50 lbs. The job is performed under temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
