THIS ROLE OPERATES ON A ROTATING SHIFT SCHEDULE THAT VARIES BASED ON OPERATIONAL AND BUSINESS NEEDS. NATURE OF WORK

The Custodian I.II is u nder general supervision and keeps assigned building interiors clean and orderly; performs a variety of custodial and minor building maintenance duties as assigned. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are generally filled from level I to level II internally by advancements, and when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience.

Custodian I:

The Custodian I is under immediate supervision; this is the entry-level class in the Custodian series. Employees are not required to have directly related work experience. Work is observed and reviewed both during performance and upon completion. Once trained in specific tasks, employees are expected to work with limited supervision.

Custodian II:

The Custodian II is under general supervision; this is the journey-level class in the Custodian series. Employees assigned to this class are expected to perform the full range of duties assigned and to work with considerable independence and initiative. Employees receive very minimal instruction or assistance. Positions at this level may oversee and direct moderate to complex projects. May lead, train, and monitor less experienced custodians.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Custodian I:

Employee possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all the essential duties of the job safely and satisfactorily, including, but not limited to municipal governance, teamwork, problem-solving, relationship-building, customer service, detail oriented, technology/equipment proficiency, policy adherence, time management, result-orientation, research and analyzing data, decision-making, self-motivation, stewardship, integrity, and upholding our EDGE core values. Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails. To support consistent high-quality service for our community and each other, it is the expectation of all employees to be punctual and have good attendance and to communicate effectively for scheduling conflicts or when taking leave according to city policy. Performs custodial tasks including vacuuming floors, cleaning desks and other furniture, emptying waste receptacles, washing interior and exterior windows and walls, cleaning restrooms, and replenishing supplies. Maintains floor surfaces including stripping, waxing, sealing, polishing, and carpet extraction. Prepares room and facility set up for meetings, sports functions, and private rentals. Provides maintenance of gymnasium equipment and floors. Works with supervisor on requisitioning, stocking, and maintaining facility and maintenance supplies as needed. Conducts inspections of buildings and grounds periodically during work schedule to determine cleaning, repairs and maintenance needed. Follows appropriate procedures for disposing of hazardous materials and conforms to SDS guidelines. Interacts with all City Departments to meet the needs for cleaning, setups, and maintenance. May provide general maintenance and minor plumbing, painting, and minor building repairs. Assists in the transportation and setting up of recreation equipment for special events. Provides monthly checks on all security lights and repairs/replaces as needed. Knowledge of tools, materials, working practices and methods of custodial maintenance. Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures. Ability to utilize physical strength and agility sufficient to perform cleaning and building maintenance tasks. Custodian II:

In addition to previous essential functions: Instructs, advises, and demonstrates work methods, practices, and procedures for completing job assignments and to assist in the training of less experienced custodians. Manages inventory list of custodial supplies. Skill in the use of various hand tools and building maintenance equipment. Ability to instruct, advise, and demonstrate work methods, practices, and procedures for completing job assignments and to assist in the training of less experienced custodians.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE
Required:
Custodian I:

High School diploma or equivalent; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. 0-2 years of related experience. Valid Colorado Driver's License or ability to obtain within six months of hire. Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid within six months of hire.

Preferred:

Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience in public/municipal sector. S ix months of related experience.

Custodian II:

In addition to previous requirements: 2-4 years of experience as a Custodian I for the City of Evans or three years of experience in the field of building maintenance, facility, custodial, janitorial service. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

PHYSICAL AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

•The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exercise mental and visual concentration, listen, talk, stand, reach, twist, demonstrate manual dexterity, walk on level, uneven and slippery terrain, turn, kneel, bend, stoop, squat, balance, crouch, crawl, grasp, pinch, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The employee will need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 20 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. The employee will need to climb ladders, work in Confined Spaces, use power equipment/tools that produce vibration and noise, and work in Work Zones with moderate to heavy traffic. The employee regularly works in all outside weather conditions near moving equipment in areas with elevated noise levels and where chemicals may be utilized.
