A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Trinidad State College, located in Trinidad, Colorado, is a state-supported, two-year institution of higher education. The College was established by an act of the State Legislature in 1925, and is the oldest public two-year college in the State of Colorado. The College's Service Area includes eight rural counties characterized by low population density and small communities. One campus is located in Trinidad and is a residential campus while the other, located in Alamosa, is a commuter campus. Both campuses serve distinct populations. As a comprehensive Community College, Trinidad State College not only offers ongoing transfer Associate of Arts Degree and Associate of Applied Science (vocational) Degree programs but also has developed and implemented numerous successful short-term vocational certificate programs, and totally inclusive adult education and developmental programs.Job Summary:
This full-time position, under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, shall maintain cleanliness and sanitation of campus facilities to include auxiliary buildings. Position performs custodial and preventative maintenance duties on all buildings assigned. Works as an individual or as part of a team. Position also maintains perimeter grounds of buildings and snow removal as needed.Duties & Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Sanitation- Cleans exteriors of buildings by removing trash from entrances, cleaning entry doors and windows, removing snow, emptying trash receptacles, washing windows, removing cobwebs and cleaning entry mats and rugs.
- Cleans office, classroom and laboratory spaces by dust mop, wet mop, vacuum carpets and furniture, cleans windows, white boards and erasers, walls, doors, desks, dusts, replaces lights, washes light fixtures, and shampoos furniture.
- Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects all restroom toilet bowls, urinals, partitions, sinks, dispensers, sanitary napkin holders, plumbing fixtures, mirrors, walls, ceilings, vents, windows, and floors.
- Fills all dispensers with toilet paper, hand towels, soap, seat covers and sanitary napkins.
- Cleans and sanitizes all drinking fountains.
- Maintains and cleans custodial storage closet and maintains custodial equipment to make sure they are clean, neat, and functional. Safety and Security
- Monitors conditions and security by observing and reporting to supervisor all conditions, including repairs needed and potential hazards.
- Secures all buildings by locking all windows and doors at end of evening shift. Floor Maintenance
- Maintains all tile floor surfaces by sweeping mopping, stripping, waxing, and burnishing.
- Maintains all carpet floors by vacuuming, shampooing, and extracting. Event Setup
- Processes all event set ups for buildings.
- Assists with event outdoor venue setups as needed. Customer Service and Teamwork
- Assists other trades and covers work areas during employees' vacations and absences.
- Provides positive and productive assistance and guidance to work study employees, hourly employees, and volunteers.
- Reports any equipment issues to supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Competencies/KSAs:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Six (6) months of custodial experience. The custodial/janitorial duties must be the primary function of existing position to receive credit for experience or will be pro-rated. (Part-time experience will be pro-rated).
- Excellent time management skills
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and able to work independently and among teams.
- Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others.
- Must pass any and all required pre-employment screenings.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License to drive a State-owned vehicle when necessary.
- Standing for long periods of time, including kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, and grabbing.
- Must have adequate range of motion in upper extremities.
- Experience utilizing various electric and battery-operated floor burnisher, buffers, vacuum cleaners, wet-vacs, extractors, and floor scrubbers.
- Occasional use of stepladders and ladders to perform high dusting and cleaning of windows, cabinets, door frames and air vents.
- Operating machinery which may shake or vibrate with force such as large floor scrubbers or polishers.
- Exposure to dust, and fumes.
- Moving furniture and lifting supplies in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly.
- Ability to observe, recognize and address custodial needs of facilities on a daily basis and when working on specific projects
