A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

High School Custodian Union Contract:
Local 1303-187 of Council 4 AFSCME, AFL-CIO (Custodian & Maintenance) This Custodian position is responsible for building cleanliness, operations and daily maintenance tasks at the East Lyme High School. See Job Description for full details, duties, and responsibilities assigned to this position.
Shift Schedule:
Tuesday thru Friday, 2:00PM-10:30PM and Saturday, 7:30AM-4:00PM. Union position. Pay and benefits subject to collective bargaining agreement. Occasional mandatory overtime for special events and other non-mandatory overtime opportunities shared among staff for events or to cover for absent co-workers. This is an essential personnel position who needs to be present at the workplace during emergencies and inclement weather events, such as snow and ice, to ensure the school can open for business.
