Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic church as a Custodian and play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work in diverse settings, ensuring that all spaces are pristine, well-maintained, and compliant with safety standards. As a Custodian, you will be the backbone of our facility operations, bringing enthusiasm and attention to detail to every task. Your dedication will directly impact the comfort and safety of staff, visitors, and clients alike. Duties Daily Tasks (to keep the church fresh and welcoming) Empty and disinfect trash cans in the foyer and bathrooms. Dust high surfaces (light fixtures, vents, windows, door handles). Wipe down foyer tables, glass doors, and mirrors. Clean and disinfect bathroom sinks, countertops, and toilet bowls. Replace toilet paper, hand towels, and soap. Mop or sweep floors in high-traffic areas (lobby, sanctuary, fellowship hall). Wipe pews, railings, and windows in the sanctuary. Weekly Tasks (more thorough cleaning before Sunday services) Vacuum carpets and clean altar area. Deep clean and disinfect all bathroom surfaces, refill supplies. Vacuum and mop administrative office floors. Dust and clean all furnishings in meeting rooms and offices. Core Responsibilities 1. Cleaning and Maintenance Sweep, vacuum, mop, or scrub carpeted, hardwood, tile, vinyl, concrete, or stone floors Perform carpet cleaning tasks such as shampooing, bonnet cleaning, and hot water extraction Strip, buff, or wax hard surface floors as needed Remove stains, debris, or spills promptly to maintain safety and appearance 2. Equipment Operation and Maintenance Operate and maintain floor care equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, polishers, and burnishers Monitor and maintain cleaning supplies and chemicals 3. Safety and Compliance Follow all safety protocols and handle cleaning chemicals safely Report floor damage, equipment issues, or safety hazards to supervisors Experience Prior custodial or janitorial experience in commercial or industrial settings is highly preferred. Familiarity with cleaning techniques for different surfaces and materials, including floor care and buffing. Experience handling chemical agents safely and understanding chemical handling safety procedures. Strong manual handling skills with an emphasis on safe lifting practices for heavy or awkward objects. Excellent customer service skills to interact professionally with staff and visitors when needed.
