This position plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the Parks and Recreation Department by ensuring that public spaces, offices, restrooms, and community areas are properly cleaned, maintained, and ready for use by employees and residents. The role involves routine custodial duties, light maintenance, and assisting with event or facility setup as needed. Work is performed independently under general supervision and is evaluated through inspection, feedback from facility users, and adherence to established standards. Essential Job Functions Custodial & Cleaning Duties Clean and sanitize offices, restrooms, lobbies, meeting rooms, and other assigned areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors; clean carpets and rugs as needed. Dust and sanitize furniture, fixtures, and frequently touched surfaces. Empty trash and recycling receptacles; ensure proper disposal and cleanliness. Maintain breakroom/kitchen areas including appliances, counters, and sinks. Facility Maintenance Support Replace light bulbs, HVAC filters, and other consumables as scheduled or needed. Perform minor repairs on furniture, fixtures, and custodial equipment. Report building maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the supervisor. Safety & Compliance Use cleaning supplies and equipment safely, following established procedures. Maintain adequate stock of custodial supplies and notify supervisor when replenishment is needed. Follow all City safety policies and OSHA guidelines to ensure a safe workplace. Customer Service & Support Provide courteous assistance to employees and the public when using City facilities. Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, or preparing facilities for events and activities. Ensure City buildings and public spaces are clean, orderly, and ready for daily operations or special functions. Other Duties Perform related tasks as assigned to support the mission of the Parks and Recreation Department. Hours of Work, Supervisory Responsibility, and Accountability Requirements Normal Office Hours (Monday-Friday). From time to time, the employee may be required to work evenings and possibly weekends. Employee reports to the Parks and Recreation Director. Job Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning materials, and safe equipment operation. Ability to use cleaning chemicals and supplies safely, in accordance with product instructions and safety data sheets (SDS). Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to plan and organize daily tasks efficiently and manage time effectively. Ability to perform minor maintenance and recognize when to report issues requiring repair. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues and the public. Demonstrates reliability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to workplace safety. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Basic Requirements Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment as needed. Ability to operate and perform minor maintenance on custodial equipment. Physical Requirements Work involves frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying of supplies and equipment. Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Work may require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed. Working Conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various City facilities. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and environmental conditions such as heat, cold, or rain is routine. May require working in tight spaces or at heights when performing certain maintenance or cleaning tasks.
