Hourly rate of $16 - $18 based on experience Job Description The Head Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning school facility that supports student learning and daily campus operations. Reporting to the principal or campus administrator, the Head Custodian oversees daily custodial operations, performs routine cleaning and maintenance tasks, and ensures that school facilities meet cleanliness and safety standards. Head custodians provide light supervision and coordination of other custodial staff. The Head Custodian plays an important role in creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and families by ensuring that classrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces are clean, organized, and properly maintained. This role requires a dependable, detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks, respond to facility needs, and support the overall operations of the campus. Key Activities Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Maintain cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, and common areas Perform routine custodial tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and sanitizing surfaces Monitor and restock custodial supplies and report supply needs to administration Ensure restrooms, cafeteria areas, and high-traffic areas remain clean and sanitary throughout the day Campus Operations Support Assist with setting up and breaking down spaces for school events, meetings, and activities Respond to facility needs such as spills, safety concerns, or maintenance requests Conduct routine checks of the building to identify cleanliness or maintenance issues Support minor facility repairs and coordinate larger maintenance needs with school leadership Safety & Compliance Ensure all areas of the campus meet health and safety standards Properly handle and store cleaning supplies and equipment Follow all safety procedures related to equipment use and facility maintenance Custodial Team Support Provide light supervision and coordination of custodial staff schedules and duties Assist in training or guiding custodial staff on cleaning expectations and safety procedures Ensure daily custodial tasks are completed effectively Professional Responsibilities Work collaboratively with school leadership and staff to support campus operations Maintain a reliable work schedule and complete assigned tasks daily Communicate facility needs or concerns to the principal or campus administrator Uphold all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations Mission Ensure the school environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained, allowing students and staff to focus on teaching and learning in a positive and welcoming facility. Consistently deliver a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff Physical Requirements Ability to lift and move heavy objects (20+lbs) such as furniture, equipment, and supply boxes Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the campus for extended periods of time Ability to operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as required by campus needs Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred Ability to operate cleaning equipment and follow safety procedures Alignment with SMARTManagement's mission and values Reference Checks All final candidates for this position will be asked to arrange three reference checks one of which must be with a former manager.
