A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.
The mission of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is committed to eradicating homelessness amongst our veterans. The Foundation is seeking an experienced Porter to assist with the ongoing cleanliness of our Veterans Village as it relates to our Homeless Veteran Program. Applicants must be able to work independently, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with participants and staff. The Porter is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment throughout Tunnel to Towers Foundation Veteran Village property. This position performs daily cleaning, housekeeping, waste removal, basic facility support, and light maintenance duties for interior and exterior areas while supporting the health, safety, and comfort of veterans, staff, and visitors.
Requirements:
Clean and sanitize facilities common areas, offices, conference rooms, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, and community spaces. Make ready units for new participants. Replenish restroom supplies including soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, and hygiene products. Maintain cleanliness and organization of supply closets and janitorial storage areas and safe storage of chemicals and janitorial equipment Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and debris. Empty waste receptacles throughout the facility. Maintain dumpster and refuse storage areas in a clean and orderly condition. Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of cleaning materials and waste. Assist with maintaining laundry rooms and laundry equipment areas. Monitor common areas for cleanliness and safety concerns. Maintain entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, and outdoor common spaces. Assist with snow removal, storm cleanup, and seasonal grounds maintenance as needed. Ensure the property always presents a professional and welcoming appearance. Follow all OSHA, safety, infection control, and workplace safety procedures. Support emergency preparedness and facility safety activities when requested. Interact professionally and respectfully with participants, staff, contractors, and visitors. Qualifications Minimum of High School Diploma or GED preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Knowledge of general cleaning and sanitation practices. Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and handle cleaning chemicals. Strong attention to detail and good communication skills. Ability to multitask multiple projects. Proficient in Microsoft Office/ Google Suite (or equivalent). Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and reach overhead for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license required. Pre-employment screening, including a background check, is required.
