The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day custodial operations at Wai Kai, ensuring facilities and public areas are maintained to established standards for cleanliness, safety, appearance, and guest readiness. This position directly oversees Custodial Technicians and Lead Custodial Technicians and is responsible for staffing, scheduling, onboarding, training, daily work assignments, performance management, and overall execution of the custodial operation. The Supervisor provides direction and support to Lead Custodial Technicians, ensuring they are equipped to guide assigned shifts, coordinate workflow, support team members, and communicate operational needs. While Leads provide day-to-day guidance during assigned shifts, the Custodial Supervisor maintains overall accountability for the team, staffing, performance, training, and consistent execution of custodial standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees the daily operations of the custodial team, including Custodial Technicians and Lead Custodial Technicians. Recruits, interviews, and supports the selection of qualified custodial team members in partnership with Human Resources and the Director of Recreation and Facilities. Coordinates and oversees onboarding and training for new team members to ensure they are prepared to safely and effectively perform assigned responsibilities. Develops and manages employee schedules based on operational needs, property activity, special events, staffing levels, and approved labor plans. Assigns daily work areas, priorities, and responsibilities and adjusts team deployment throughout the day as operational needs change. Provides direction, coaching, and ongoing support to Lead Custodial Technicians in carrying out daily shift leadership responsibilities. Establishes clear expectations for Leads regarding work assignments, team coordination, communication, inspections, and escalation of employee or operational concerns. Maintains overall supervisory responsibility for Custodial Technicians and Lead Custodial Technicians, including attendance, performance, conduct, training, and accountability. Provides regular coaching and feedback and addresses performance or attendance concerns in partnership with the Director of Recreation and Facilities and Human Resources, as appropriate. Ensures consistent custodial standards are maintained throughout guest-facing, employee, office, restroom, common, event, and other assigned areas. Conducts routine inspections of assigned areas and follows up on deficiencies to ensure timely correction. Ensures custodial checklists, cleaning schedules, opening/closing responsibilities, and other required documentation are completed accurately and consistently. Coordinates custodial coverage and support for property events, Farmers Markets, group functions, and other operational needs. Monitors custodial supplies, chemicals, tools, and equipment and coordinates replenishment, repair, or replacement as needed. Ensures cleaning products, chemicals, tools, and equipment are used, labeled, stored, and maintained safely and according to established procedures. Trains and reinforces proper cleaning methods, chemical handling, equipment use, safety practices, and Company procedures. Maintains awareness of property conditions and responds to spills, cleanliness concerns, safety hazards, and other custodial needs in a timely manner. Partners with Facilities, Recreation & Leisure Activities, Guest Experience, Special Events, and other departments to support overall property operations. Communicates staffing, facility, safety, supply, equipment, and operational concerns to the Director of Recreation and Facilities. Supports the team directly with custodial duties when needed based on staffing levels, business volume, events, or other operational needs. Completes required reports, documentation, training, and administrative responsibilities related to the custodial operation. Ensures team members follow Company policies, safety requirements, and established operational procedures. Supports other areas within Recreation & Leisure Activities and Facilities as needed to support overall operations. Performs all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills. Ability to supervise, coach, train, and provide clear direction to employees at varying levels of experience. Ability to effectively guide Lead Custodial Technicians while maintaining clear supervisory accountability for the overall team. Strong organization and scheduling skills with the ability to adjust staffing and priorities based on operational needs. Knowledge of custodial cleaning practices, sanitation standards, cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment. Ability to identify cleanliness, maintenance, and safety concerns and coordinate appropriate follow-up. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and guest-ready environment. Ability to address employee concerns professionally and escalate employee relations matters appropriately. Ability to communicate effectively with employees, leadership, other departments, vendors, and guests. Ability to prioritize multiple operational needs in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Basic computer skills and ability to use scheduling, timekeeping, email, and other Company systems. Valid driver's license preferred. Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum two (2) years of custodial, janitorial, facilities, hospitality, or related operational experience required. Previous experience in a supervisory, lead, or team leadership role required. Experience with employee scheduling, training, onboarding, and performance coaching preferred. Experience in a high-volume hospitality, resort, attraction, entertainment, or similar guest-facing environment preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on operational needs. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements. Ability to safely use custodial equipment, cleaning tools, and approved cleaning chemicals. Regular movement throughout the Wai Kai property is required.
