A Janitor or Cleaner provides cleaning and basic maintenance in buildings such as schools, offices, stores, hospitals or hotels. Cleans and polishes floors, removes trash, vacuums carpets, washes windows, cleans bathrooms, stocks building supplies such as light bulbs and paper towels and performs minor repairs as needed. Holds keys for rooms and building entrances and locks or unlocks them as needed.

Job Description

Job Summary The custodian performs several specialized tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of the floors, carpet, walls, windows, sidewalks, lights and vents. The position is also responsible for moving furniture and equipment as requested. The custodian maintains the highest possible sanitary standards in the locker rooms and in other assigned areas. The custodian maintains safety conditions within the assigned shift. Maintain a positive working relationship with supervisor and co-workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Common custodial job duties include: Cleaning locker rooms, steam rooms, saunas, restrooms, fitness areas, offices, and common spaces Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces Emptying trash and recycling bins Restocking supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper Maintaining cleanliness of gym equipment and wellness areas Setting up and taking down rooms for programs or events Performing minor maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, basic repairs, reporting larger issues) Monitoring building safety and reporting hazards Following health and sanitation guidelines Assisting with pool area cleanliness if the branch has aquatic facilities Using cleaning equipment safely, including floor machines and chemicals Helping ensure members feel welcomed and safe Walk through pool area empty trash, sweep floor, take battery out of chair lift Shovel snow on sidewalks as needed Pick-up trash in parking lot When co-workers are absent duties will change. It is expected that the custodian staff be flexible.
Pay:
$11.00 - $11.50 per hour
