To be a successful Church Custodian, you should be observant, respectful, motivated and committed to providing church members, visitors and staff with a clean, orderly place to worship and congregate. You should also be knowledgeable about proper chemical handling and cleaning techniques and have the ability to make basic repairs Skills Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Basic computer knowledge to review church calendar, program HVAC settings and to use email to correspond with others. Motivation to work independently or with others to provide thorough, efficient custodial services to the church. Areas of Responsibility Maintaining clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and daily spot or deep cleaning, as needed, in all public areas of the building, including bathrooms, sanctuary, kitchens, and meeting rooms. Working with other maintenance team members and church staff to ensure that all areas are cleaned and stocked with necessary items. Observing proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents, including wearing gloves, goggles, or masks and following written or verbal instructions. Assisting with event preparations and clean up. Interacting with church staff and visitors in a respectful, positive manner. Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required. Performs outside custodial duties as required including snow removal and lawn care. Assist in controlling and regulating HVAC system. Other duties may be assigned. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Minimum two years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
